I was wondering which flywheels are compatible with the 250. I am thinking about picking up a 250 that was equipped with a C4, but I will be using the 3.03 toploader.

I will be placing this in a 64 Ranchero. I understand an electric radiator fan is recommended. Any opinions on make and model of electric fan?

Thank you!

You'll need one with 157 teeth and a neutral balance.

This can be a new purchase, or a rebalanced (to zero) one from a SBF-powered car. Note that going from auto to manual requires new (longer) mounting bolts for the flywheel to crank.

As to the fan -I'd sugggest getting the radiator placement sorted first. That'll to some extent define what fan you could put in there. Aftermarket kits like "Davies Craig" sell, have adjustable thermal switches and a range of sizes to suit. There's cheaper equivalents, too.

Cheers, Adam.

SBF pattern/size 157T as already noted. These are not common. Original standard tranny 250's had them and some SBF's . Racing SFI rated "light" Flywheels are available that have swappable weights for the typical 28Oz and 50 Oz(?). SBF's. These can be used wirthout the counterweights as well. I picked one up on EBAy for under $100 new - CAT brand / SFI 157 / Neutral Balance / Lightweight Flywheel. I'm using a C5DA Bell, Centerforce II clutch to a 3.03 Toploader. Works great for now, I even hooked up the column shifter. I have an adaptor and T5 as well as 8" rear ready for nexy stage...

A 250 in a '61 leaves no room between WP and radiator. I needed to "form" firewall to gain enough space to clear taller block/head interference and that left @ 3/4" . You may do better on a '64. The original radiator position on mine required a "Pusher" position elec. fan.

I had cooling problems on the heavily modified 250, and replaced the rad with an Aluminum BIG radiator.

I used an all metal Permacool fan, sold as reversible. It is an economical solution as well-priced @ $120 + electronics. Since I don't have any room in back of the radiator, I first mounted it as a "Pusher" in front of the radiator. The directions were simply flip the Fan on the motor. In that position, the fan was very inefficient and seemed to just push air off the sides and didn't do a decent job of cooling the beast. So I put the fan back in the "Puller" position with the motor behind it and it moves lots of air with the engine happily cooled even in car show bumper to bumper entry traffic.
