Got my DS2 installed...

Well, I finally got around to installing the DS2 ignition. Last couple of weeks my gas mileage has really been low, so did a lot of trouble shooting, no real response. Last week my car started missing a little bit. I tracked it down to what I think was a bad dizzy cap. I was running Pertronix is a 68 dual advance (mech/vac) dizzy and I figured I already had the DS2 dizzy and my MSD Digital 6+ was installed, might as well get new wires, cap and rotor for the DS2 vice my original set up. It was going to cost the same either way.

I must say the DS2 is a nice upgrade. Very solid. I no longer carry points around in the back of my car. Not that I had problems with Pertronix, but there was always the threat. At least most autoparts stores carry DS2 stuff in worse case scenario.

I'll be working on yet another how too for the DS2 with a review.

So...long story short, gas mileage is up around 26-27 MPG, back where it was before the winter started last year.

26-27 MPG!!!!!! how is that possible? my '68 200 got 10-12. i'm in the process of rebuilding...but damn! was it just the ignition set up? or are there other mods that got it to 26mpg

Even with Pertronix...I got 24-25 MPG once it was once tuned up. 10-12 seems like something is really wrong. V-8s can get that easy.

Slade, what's your experience with the top up and down? I lose about 2 MPG when I put the top down. 8) My Pertronix appears to be running fine (3 years). Just turned on the Cruise Control, and old Charlie went through Tennessee and Kentucky's mountains without missing a beat. However, running at 75-80 MPH also cost me a couple of MPG. :D

Top up...windows close...better mileage, but death in the summer (no AC)

Top down: Second best, lose about 2 MPG

Top up, windows down, worse...

Top down is a must in the summer...I'm sure you know that... ;)
