o.k. well I have a problem where when turning my car likes to bog and such and it is becoming a problem. I dont know whether the float is too high or low, and my msd pwns all stopped pwning the night after I drove it... its back to bogging when trying to burnout and I dont have a clue what its deal is... I was supposed to go with my dad to our garage and sort out the problems, but instead hes working on his motorcycle. So the question is how do I know if its adjusted too high or low? usually when doing the burnout it backfires through the carb which according to my dad means it is starving for fuel, any ideas? I am going out to buy some better plugs/wires and ill be back... If you guys want I can makea video of what its doing if that would help you out.

who wouldda thunk that holley woudl out manuals online I got it... still need to test drive, the first time I started it and opened the check window gas was pouring out everywhere... so I am guessing it as too high, now I am off to buy some new plug wires...

According to holley, run the engine, shut off, then check the float level.

It should be right at the bottom of the sight hole.

I check mine both ways, because sometime heat can cause the level to rise after shut-down.

Start the engine & at idle only if you have a sight glass plug the level should be right at the bottom of the glass.

If you have the brass plug, check it right after shutting down engine.

CAUTION, since the float bowl is right over the headers put a towel under the carb & the check the level, if it is too high be ready to screw back in the bowl to prevent some fuel spillage.

IT IS ALSO A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE A FRIEND BY WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER.

Adjust the level using a 5/8 box wrench & a large blade screwdriver.

You also could have heat soak on the float bowl which will boil the fuel out of the accerator pump & you will only pump air on acceration.

You live in a hot climate, so it would advisable to install a heat shield under the float bowl to prevent the heat from the headers from boiling your fuel.

Also check your accerator pump adjustment, floor the throttle & take a pair of pliers then move the arm from the the accerator pump diaphram to full open, there should be .015 clearance when doing this between the arm & the adjust bolt on the linkage. Willaim

ok well all problems have been solved. After awhile of pondering my dad and I discovered the problem... and realised that we are idiots... ok... so heres the story: When I gt the msd I wanted to install it that day and it was 10pm and I had to goto school the next day so we were in a rush. So we hooked everything up according to the diagram for a ford duraspark setup which uses the module to still be hooked up to the dizzy, And I knew that you shouldnt have to use the old module with the msd so we went to unplug it and the car died... which meant that it was still controlling something and until then we didnt know it was still hooked up, so we turned the page on the instruction manual and saw that there was a digram to use a magnetic pickup with fords, so it hit us! we had completely hooked it up wrong, so we got it all back together and I started it up and noticed an immediat difference in throttle response... so I got into our handy dandy local parking lot and did some "testing" and msd reclaimed its spot as the pwner of all...

ok so when I first explained to my dad what it was doing we went into the lot and I floor it... it sputtered for a second then roasted the tire... I came around and he told me to try it again, so I did and i put it to the floor froma stop and it just instantly died. so I tried again same thing, and again and again... now back to where I am now, I put it to the floor after we got it fixed and it roasted the tire ALL the way across the lot and I was amazed... so I did a u-turn and 3/4 the way through I floored it and the back end kicked out a little bit and I did a massive 2 wheel peel across the lot... and I proceeded to doa few more just to make sure... so the car is running awesome... and I have no turning problems, it still did the bogging around a corner until I did the msd wiring right so I am guessing it was some kind og wiring problem when the wires moved it would hav e abad connection or something... so that was it... makes me want to goto the strip again since its running good... and I was going to go thursday but the girl I wanted to go with had to do something and hopefully well be able to go next week... I want to know what her car will run, its a 66? fairlane 500 witha 289, sounds pretty good and as far as I know it has a 4bbl and headers, but still not sure... should be fun! :D
