do i need to get new brackets to change out my gen. on a '65 200, to a one wire alt? i want more reliability, also where can i find a used disyII, nobody around here has anything older than the '80s, and there never seems to be one on ebay. any other ideas where to look?

8) www.autokrafters.com carries the brackets you need. i also recommend getting one of their one wire conversion kits as well. this will be a big help to you;

http://www.mustangsteve.com/GENtoALT.html

you can pick up a duraspark distributor from any good auto parts store, like checker, autozone, pep boys, advance auto, etc. if they dont have one in stock they can usually get one to you in a day or two. ask for one from a 78-83 fairmont 3.3L. i used a chrysler ignition box and msd blaster 3 coil in my 66 falcon.

The lower bracket is different and was on thousands of engines out of Falcons, Comets, Mavericks, Mustangs, Fairmounts, Zephyrs to name a few. Get the upper bracket at the same time.

Someone here must have a stash of these. I need what I have so I cannot help you there. Post a wanted ad in the section. If you find a later model lower bracket, it has the nut welded to the bracket itself which makes for a nice easy install.

HI,
Out of curiosity what is the fifth digit of your vin? I'm curious as to whether it's a 64 or a 65? I have an alternator bracket if you are interested?Let me know?

Thanks for all the replys, The car is a 61 ranchero and the block code from what i have found out thru this site is a 65, its definatily a gen, and a load a matic dissy, i thought the 3.3 was different for the dissy?i would be interested in purchasing the brackets for the alt. from anyone who has them. Im not sure what a one wire kit is? I have put the same alt on my 64 fairlane and just had to run a heavy wire to the battery and got to remove all the other wires and crap.

The point of a one wire kit is that these cars stock came with an external regulator that stops the alternator from overcharging and killing your battery. The one wire kit is supposed to remove all those wires that you need for the regulator.

8) check out this link;

http://www.npdlink.com/modules.php?name ... c=download

click on ignition,wiring,charge and download that part of the catalog. then check out page 2 on the right side of the page, part number 10a316-1a it converts a 3 wire alternator to a one wire alternator. use an alternator of 61 amps or less though other wise you will damage the alternator.

Thanks again for all the help, I have a one wire alt. this has a built in regulator, so that it will not put out more than the needed 12 to 14 volts, and lets me get rid of the wirng to the external regulator that i have now on the rad. support. at least that is how it worked for me on my v-8 and thats how the instructions say to wire it up. I am still having a hard time finding the brackets, autokrafters doest seem to have them anywhere on the website.

HI,
I definitely have the bracket that holds the alternator to the block,It's sitting in front of me as I am typing this.I am looking for the other one,That mounts on the front and has the area for adjusting the belt tension.I definitely have one that is not readily available right now,But I believe I have an additional one that I am trying to locate?Either way,Please feel free to shoot me a pm and we'll go from there.Thanks
