Hey guys, yesterday I just put a new Holly 350 cfm 2bbl on my engine. I used the clifford adaptor, and it took about 3 days worth of toying, fabbing, and pretty much modifying anything I touched. Once I had finished I went to put an air cleaner on there...and all I could get to fit was a 9" air cleaner with a 2" filter....But now I'm on to bigger problems.

Before I even switched the carbs, I installed a TAC to see what my RPM's were at. But when I was driving, I could never get the RPMS past 3500. When I would be in first it would shift at about 35, then in 2nd, shift at about 3300. I was hoping a new carb would fix this but I was sadly mistaken. If anybody has any thoughts, i'm all ears for help. Thanks!

Best,
Jaryd

The tranny will shift at those speeds i believe. I'll be going down the road in first and it'll shift at 3500. even when i manually shift it myself, it gets up to about 3500 and starts screaming and pops...

Most tachs are pre-set from the factory at 8 cylinders.
You may need to change your to 6 cyls for the tach to read right!

Well that's what I thought too, so I checked it, and it's set at 6 cyl. so now I'm back to where I started.

Ignition timing may be your problem.

If you have a 67 or earlier car, all you have is vacuum advance. If you have a 350 Holley, it won't work properly anyway. Even if it's all in good shape, you won't have enough advance to rev much past 3500 without all the popping and drama.

I installed a holley 2300 500 cfm and it didnt make much power after 3500 rpms I would usually shift at 3800-4000 if I was trying to race the usual lawnmower... but I did upgrade to a duraspark 2 dizzy and module, and some high energy supression cables (tell that to you school/workmates.. see whatr their reaction is... it was funny one person just agreed completely until I asked him what they were oh.. by the way that'll be spark plug wires... ) the with the addition of headers it gained quite a bit of performance, and a noticable gas mileage increase... before I would normally drive around with it to the floor then it was only when I wanted to go anywhere fast... I also noticed when my choke was turned on accidentally after wiping off the carb it did a missing sorta deal up in the higher rpms...

yea, if you got any money left over, try a DSII, $135 gets you a recurved one from Scott at Reincarnation Automotive, or the economcal junk-yard route should be an improvment. My stock 200 with stock carb and FSPP header/duals feebed out at short of 4,000 rpms with stock dizzy, now it goes to 4,500, 4,600 rpms before running out of carb (i'm guessing). gotta fix that next....
