Megasquirt Internal USB

Does anyone know much about the reliability of the internal USB upgrade for the Megasquirt? I read on DIYautotune's site MS2 might have issues with it. Anyone out there running one of these and do they work good? Thanks!

It should't be any more of an upgrade than adapting a 9 pin serial to a USB. You just convert it in the ECU instead of letting the adapter cord do it. The issue comes about that sometimes the USB adapter doesn't work well on some computers. I'm not sure of the details, but I know some people have had no problems, and some have had many problems, using a USB adapter. So hence the USB upgrade may also be just as unpredictable.

MegaSquirt 2 has issues with some USB to serial converters, unfortunately. My advice is to buy one of the USB brands recommended on diyautotune. I rolled the dice with mine and can tell you that the ones at Best Buy do not work with MegaSquirt 2.

I tried one from Best buy and it didn't work either. IIRC, it was a Dynex. Good thing they take returns! Anyone know exactly why these converters have issues with MS2? Could it be the processor speed?

I use serial converters all the time for work things. Never had an issue myself or seen one in person that did not work but I have certainly heard of issues. One thing I have noticed is both mine have software that I can bring up and configure things. Some seem to just auto config with windows and these are the ones that dont seem to connect to everything. In the fall I bought a dual port adapter, have not tried it at work yet but it works fine with MS and my LC-1. That was one of the reasons I bought it was to be able to get a digital reading on the LC-1 wideband and compare it to the megatune readout. It takes some messing around to get them both on the screen but it reads and displays them both. My old one is a keyspan, not sure of the model I have had it for 3 or more years now. It was a mid priced one at the time. The new one I cant seem to find, it may be in the car in storage. I dont remember the brand but got it at a local computer store for around $70 IIRC. One of my co workers got one at radio shack over the summer that has worked on other equipment. I think he said it was $45 .
