nitrous set up

i am about to purchase an edelbrock nitrous set up for the 300 straight six i have and was wondering what is a safe amount of nitrous to set up on these engines. i know the weak link is the pistons but just want to know how much nitrous i should let my engine injest. it has a edelbrock 500cfm carb, offy manifold, full msd ignition, performance clutch. any info would be great thanx.

Depends on age of engine, compression rato, fuel used, weight of vehicle, etc.

Give more info to expect a better answer.

the motor and all its parts have about 2000 miles on them. compression ratio is 9 to 1.

its a 82 ford truck and it only runs 91 octane

OK, that makes a big difference!

Its a HEAVY vehicle....

You don't have very good gas....and your 9:1 compression is probably using every bit of that 91 octane with probably no room to spare. Unless you are at a very high altitude)

I wouldn't spray more than a 50 shot on it with 91 octane, even with the timing backed down a few degrees. You can get a MSD timing retard that takes some timing out as soon as the solenoids are energized, and that will be more convenient. The engine can handle 100 shot pretty easily if you had race gas.

Just to clarify, the timing retard isn't so much to prevent pinging....its because nitrous makes the mix in the cylinder burn FASTER. Fast burn means less timing is needed.
