I'll go with something different for that reason alone. I have an 1100 on my car now, I rebuilt it a couple of times and I still can't get it right. I can't imagine putting 3 on there........

BTW, I ordered my intake today. I'm on my way.........

Hey everyone, I am going to pick up Wingspan Mustang next weekend. Hopefully, I will be able to comment on the 3 carb set up once I get it home..

Nope. 170, 200 , and 250 only.
You are kidding right? The same heads that bolt onto a 170/200/250 will bolt onto a 144. The same mods work, but results may vary a little bit, for example the 144 doesnt need as much air as a 250 and a head off of a 250 with a large carb opening and increased runner volume combined with machine work to keep the combustion chambers a decent size in order to maintain compression ratio might work better and be more cost effective then a full 3x1, a progressive 2bbl on an adapter might be a better choice.

It will work but that does not mean it meet your goals.

Well, I got the car home this past weekend and I noticed that the carb linkage is not progressive and opens all 3 carbs (autolite 1100) at the same time. Runs really rich (go figure), so I need to figure out a progressive linkage so I can run off the center carb until I step into it. Any suggestions on how to set it up? The carbs setup is homemade by the previous owner and is not the Offy setup.

My offy was missing parts from the box, so I called them and they sent me what I needed. I would imagine that they would sell ya what ya need. Just don't expect to find their number real easy-like. They have no website and operate much the same as they did 50 years ago-not that it's a bad thing!

I just re-joined this forum and hopefully have a contribution to make on this thread. I have a 64 Falcon with a 200-6, and am running the Offy tri-carb set-up. I have three Holley Model 1960 carbs with progressive linkage.

The engine is balanced, running 9.8 :1 compression with a shaved head, a 208/208-degree (duration at .050) Comp cam and a Mallory Unilite disty.

When I first got this set-up running, it was running very rich and the linkage was extremely stiff. The Holley carbs were notorious for having sticky needle valves and the thing would flood if you looked at wrong. I ended up disconnecting the linkage and fuel supplies from the front and rear carbs and am now running just the center one. Fuel mileage is OK at 17 mpg and it runs well except for cold starts. (I would not recommend a manual chake to anyone.)

I am now considering swapping the center carb to the Weber 34 ICH. Do you think this single carb will have enough airflow and fuel to keep up with the cam, or do I need to buy (3) $200 carbs? (EEEEK!!!)

Also, in the picture that CoupeBoy posted, it shows an electrical connection to the center carb. Is this an electric choke connection or a fuel enrichment solenoid? Or what? I'm curious.

Thanks for the help.

Thx for comments and great pics.

mustang652 - you can mail me a scan if you want of the Mustang & Fords article, (f0ssil (at) hotmail.com), i can edit and post it. Did you get any other comments about why not to use the Autolite 1100s? Thats the carb i got now and buying 2 more of the same kind is cheaper than getting 3 brand new...

If not the 1100s, which carb do you guys suggest? I want a simple setup.

Anyone have any close guess bout what the setup would deliver for me in terms of hp with all the head mods on my '66 from inlinepages.

Id say "People might debate this with me, but I feel that you can easily manage 25-35 or more horsepower by spending some time on the head upgrade. This is why I feel it's the most important part of the buildup."

IMO, Autolite 1100's should work fine!

 :D :D

If the 1100s have a power valve I would probably plug the power valves in the two outer carbs. This is a pretty common fix on the Chevy try carb setups. They might be a little tricky to set the idle because you have alot of idle circut available x 3.

Stubby, thats a great idea about blocking the power valves on the end carbs.

Years ago the end carbs also had the idle circuit screws turned in or the idle circuit blocked, the end carbs had the throttle blades almost closed & all your idle was controlled by the center carburetor.

Just a thought?? William

That really is the best way to do it.

Two posts in almost four years! You are a posting maniac!

All kidding aside, both your posts are great. Thanks for all the info. And don't wait another four years to lay some more of your knowledge on us! :D

Hey cool, pictures of my car...

The fuel line was a temporary set-up, and by temporary I mean its been on there for a couple of years now, smile. It runs great, unfortunatley I started too many projects at once, and all the brake lines are removed. I have the new ones, and now that my other home projects are wrapping up I plan on putting it all back together. I still start it about once a month and it fires right up...

If anyone has any other questions, I will do my best to answer them.
