I just found an electric dizzy and an accel super coil in my shed and i want to fit them in the transit 250 it fits the block but how the flog do i wire it up??

I done it once many many moons ago but id be rogered if i could remember how

P.S. anyone know what kind of oil is in the super coils and can you buy it?

The coil would have a type of "transformer oil" in it. Depending on how old your sample is, this could include PCBs (polychlorinatedbiphenyls). These chemicals are capital "B" BAD...

However, it's quite likely the unit is nowhere near that old and you are safe. Just not sure where you'd find more oil. Maybe try a speaker building/repair firm or specialist transformer maker?

Is it the Ford dizzy? Red to 12V switched at the key, and to the coil, green to the coil and tacho. C'est facile, mon ami.

cheers addo for the brief description
i knew it was something like that but it just seemed too simple

i have been running accel super coils for years.i am guessing they sell the right oil for the coils but im not sure what type they should have.around 10 years ago i left the key on my car overnight when i was working on it and the next morning the accel super coil had actualy cooked and boiled the oil in it and blew the top gasket out and it leaked everywhere anyway i was out of town at my nanas house by myself and all i could find was some black and gold engine oil so i topped it up,put some silastic round the top gasket and its still going today lol.i wouldnt recomend this (maybe i should lol) but its still going.ok i am running an xd/xe electronic dizzy and mine is wired up with the pos coil going to the red dizzy wire the neg coil going to the green dizzy wire and a pos from the coil going to original pos coil wire.thats how mine has been hooked up for years.

isnt there a kit for point dizzys so you dont have to adjust them etc again??? im unsure, i have heard of these kits but never looked into them, anyone know wat im talking about??

Yes. Pertronix, Optospark and others do a kit. But... It doesn't do anything about the advance curve or wear in the moving parts like the shaft bushes or advance plate.

To me, they're about as clever as putting vinyl cladding over rotten weatherboards. It may be cheap and seem better, but you really haven't addressed the main issues.

I just hooked up the dizzy with red to +ve on the coil and green to _ve on the coil and thats it. It seems to work but is this the right way? Another thing, about those ignition modules, can you run them with the Bosch dizzy. I have a multispark unit that I ran with the points distributer and I now want to run it with the Bosch. Is this possible? As far as the module goes itself, its effect was very noticeable. The engine ran much better with it installed. In my opinion, if your points distributer is in good condition, the ignition modules are a good step towards a better ignition system.

Well its all wired up and going

Its easy to do in a cortina just plug the wires on the coil and then onto the main harness

i was fitting this into a transit and it just seemed too easy to plug them both on the coil

Greenie, the aftermarket bit probably won't make as much difference with the Bosch electronic ignition, as it did with points. You'll need to work out how to time it, too! :P

Thanks, its just I had it running better with points and module than electronic. Don't know why. Would the advance curve have anything to do with this because I don't know if the XF 200 advance curve works the best with my 200ci prexflow motor.
