All Small Six Putting a 1981 200 into a 1966 mustang

This relates to all small sixes
I currently have a 1966 mustang with a stock 1966 200 engine and c4 transmission. The engine needs a rebuild and I don’t know if the transmission works or not. A guy in my area is giving away a 1981 200 out of a fox body with the matching 4 speed SROD, and I am trying to figure out if the 1981 engine would bolt into my 1966 mustang and mate with the c4 transmission without major modifications. Does anyone know what issues I might run into trying to achieve this?

Probably a good plan to get the block casting ID numbers to make sure of what you have and what you are getting from the fox body. Someone knowledgeable will show up with the answer based on verification of casting numbers. Pics of each unit are always helpful. However if you can get that 200/SROD for free I would get it as these items are getting hard to find.

I would add that if you can, get the electronic ignition Duraspark II from the Fox Body so you can move up from the Load o Matic points setup.

The stock 1966 autolite 1100 wont bolt onto your 1981 head but that’s a good thing. Get a bigger carb, run it with the Duraspark and get some better performance and better dependability.

You'll need to remove the pilot bushing/bearing in the end of the crankshaft of the later engine as well, unless you want to keep the manual transmission.
Yep. Super easy to do with a bolt, a nut and a screwdriver, if you don’t have a blind bushing extractor. Here’s my lame attempt at videoing how to do it one handed lying under my car last week. Much easier to do with the engine out.
