I was looking to create a shaker hood /intake or else forced air through the hood scoop of my mustang. My question: what keeps water out of the intake? Or is this really not a problem? It just seems that if air is being forced into the intake, why isn't the rain?

Thanks,
Steve

I had an car with a hood scoop and an open element air cleaner popping up through it. In the rain, the paper element would get soaked and get restrictive. I carried spare filters in the trunk.

Properly designed, you could put some sort of baffles to divert the water. Seems I remember my '73 Comet had a snorkle air cleaner. Where the snorkle tied on to the aircleaner, there was a baffle between the inlet and the air filter element. I can remember cleaning many impinged bugs off of the baffle plate.
