if you drive behind me it smells like unburnt fuel all the time. any ideas as to what to check as far as settings?

OK, a little more info would be handy!

Regular service issues come to mind first - condition of the spark plugs, ignition timing, coil and leads. Compression - is it low? Any smoke? If so, what colour, and when is it most obvious?

Does the car feel sluggish to drive? Has this part changed during your ownership?

Cheers, Adam.

Howdy DB:

Ditto on what Adam said.

Also check for an visible gas leaks- especially around the carb, fuel pump and gas tank. The rubber filler hose connecters on the tank are notorious for cracking and leaking

If you're smelling raw gas, it is not likely a setting. It is more than likely a leak.

Adios, David

On my wagon i though i had a bad gas cap turned out it was the gasket where the metal flange the holds the fill tube meets the body.
