Score in cylinder head

Hi
I bought a 200 that was said to be rebuilt and I was going to leave as is and add on to it but I decided to take it apart.
I do not think it was rebuilt at all as it was pretty black inside and a long score down one of the cylinders.
i did not pay much for the engine and the head looks pretty good but is this block salvagable. The depth of the score is such that you can definately catch your finger nail on it.
I do have another block out of a 66 and this one is out of a 68.

scorched cylinder walls usually come from foreign materials, like nuts or spark plug electrodes, probably even from a piece of broken piston ring that got jammed in the ringland somehow.

Can you post a picture of the damaged cylinder?

You might even want to take your block to a competent machinist to have a look at it. From what you have described, it should be salvagable; however, if money is tight or if you don't want to pay the expense of boring, honing, new pistons and bearings, you're better off using that '66 block - as long as it is still ok.
