Simptoms of bad Pertonix module?

There are two primary differences between the I and the II:

1. Auto Shut off/Protection
If you leave the igition switch in the on position for extended periods of time (say for listening to the stereo etc.) The Pertronix II wil turn itself off if continuously fed current without the engine running. It won't get burned out.

2. Dwell Control:
The Pertronix II will maintain the spark as long as possible to help in a more complete burn.

Other than these two improvements, it is the same as the original Pertronix.

Yes you can use the original coil, but you will get much improved performance with the Flamethrower or Flamethrower II.

Good luck with it and let us know how it goes.

I've been using the stock yellow top coil with my Pertronix I with no problems. Last winter I bought a Pertronix flamethrower (or whatever they call it). Wanted to keep the stock look so I painted the top of the coil yellow. Other then being a little longer, you really have to look to see the difference. Also, I had a ford coil label (sticker, tag, not sure what it's called), and stuck that on too.

Tom, did you notice a difference when you changed the coil?

Thanks Bill

One more thought, as long as I have access to a PC (I'll be on the road until July 27). :D
One reason I liked the Pertronix is that I can pull it out and throw in the points in just a few minutes. If the problem persists with the points, don't blame Pertronix.
