SOLVED: Still running poorly, still having vacuum issues

I am waiting for a new Instrument Voltage regulator (it appears I fried mine while replacing ignition switch - doh!) and the universal linkage adapter so I can hook up the carb to the gas pedel. Both should arrive Friday.

I agree, if everything continues to go well, as it seems it is (still need to tweak the choke a bit, but will probably leave that too for now) I probably will drive the heck out of it this weekend and try and get a some idea how it is running and what kind of milage I am getting.

I should be able to post the results on Saturday.

Well, I got the (not so) universal linkage adapter in. It took a little filing, but I got it to fit. I don't like the way it looks, so maybe I 'll try and fab a custom piece up myself this winter that looks better. This will work for now.

As for the guages, still out. The voltage regulator may or may not be bad, don't know. The wire I spliced in was not getting any power. The bad wire is the power wire to the instrument voltage regulator and burned back into the harness. I will have to do more exploritory work on that tomorrow. Results on that will be posted in the electrical forum.

Anyway, once I got the linkage in I fired it up. Still started like a champ! After letting it warm up, I got her on the road and it is running STRONG!!! Witout much tuning from out of the box, it is pulling hard, idleing well (need to up the idle a bit, but that is minor) and even my WOT pinging is gone. In fact, when I was initally tuning it the new carb, I bumped the initial advance up to about 16* and now there is not even a hint of pinging. Before, I was pinging at 14*. My old carb must have been running leaner on the main jets too.

I am pumped. Tomorrow, I'll bump the timing up some more and do some fine tuning. maybe see how it runs with the vacuum advance hooked up!

Thanks again everyone for hanging in here with me. I know I have been a pain in everyone's side for over a year. Since this post has gotten so dang long, I'll sit down and think of everything that I did and write a summary post. Maybe someone else will be helped by my experiences.
