The new DUI dizzy

UPS delivered the first small six DUI dizzy last night. I thought the box was pretty large, considering it only had a dizzy in it, but when I opened it up I realized why. This distributor is much larger than the DSII dizzy, as are the wire sets. I took some pics in my garage last night, so they aren't great, but you can clearly see the differences. I'll try to get some better one's over the weekend.

We made a mistake on the wire sets by making them the same length as a stock set, so they didn't fit right. We'll need to remake them and add 3-8" to the lengths, depending on which plug they go to, but that's an easy fix. The Livewire sets are much thicker than other wire sets, requiring the use of DUI's custom billet looms. Stock looms won't even come close to working.

Compared to the stock or DSII dizzy, the DUI distributor is very impressive and the quality is outstanding. It really stands out as it sits much higher than a stock unit, due to its size. But in my opinion, it looks awesome. Now we just need to test it to see if the performance matches it's appearance.

8) looks like another winner there mike. i think you are having too much fun playing with six cylinder parts though(jk).

WOW! That's interesting! :D

Is there a reason for the shaft being so long? Could that create clearance issues?

Also, does it use Chevy internals????

BTW Mike, that's gonna be one trick SIX when it's ready!

That thing is sweet does FSPP offer that bad boy yet? Or do i have to order through DUI? By the way i should have my stang running in a few weeks we should have a Ford six meeting at the Pavilions. Just a thought

Alex, the DUI distributor is a pleasure to work with.

The advantage of the DUI is the use of 25 years of GM's use of this distibutor, all the advance weights & springs are right on top. All you have to do is remove the cap, remove the rotor & make changes as necessary.

Because of the high voltage make sure you use the nylon screws to fasten the rotor to the shaft. All DUI distributors come with this engineering improvement to stop arcing of the spark from the rotor to the shaft.

This distributors advantage is its ability to make changes to the advance curve & this thing will even fire fouled plugs because of its voltage. William

look at the base of the DUI shaft, that's the only part that bolts into the block
i would assume that it's so much longer to give the rest of the dizzy (which is so much bigger) clearance

I'll take some better pics on Sunday (have to work tomorrow) from the top, front, and rear. Once we have it exactly the way we want it, they will make the first production run. Providing we make no changes, they should be available in a few more weeks. First, I need to get some new wires that are the right length, so we can test it.

A before and after dyno sheet would be a great thing. Your R&D lately has been very impressive. You're likely going to set my paint job back 6 months though. Gonna need another FSPP hat!!
Are 1&2 spark plugs going to be under the Dizzy's main body. I see those of us that are anal retentive about plug wire routeing having a lot of fun here. Would custom length Live Wires be possible? I envsion a metal loom rack running perpendicular to the bottom of the (alum)valve cover with plug caps at 45* -----hmmm----
Keep up the good work
Dan

dang it u guys suck over at FSPP u guys keep coming out with new stuff i want but i cant get a job because of school and studying which means no money for parts

I like looming too, which is why I want the wires longer. I can install the ones they sent but had no freedom in how the wires run. Actually, the one and two are fine as they are down and back. Better pics will do a lot to show how it fits and looks.

First dizzy that you might have to worry about hood clearance  Sumbich is TALL!

I still want one, let us know when they are available thru FSPP.

How do you hook this up to a MSD controll box? Does it wire in like the DSII? I looked at the DUI website but didn't see anything.

Marco, Just one wire from the + of the battery is all ya' need. The distributor is all self contained, module and coil both.you wouldn't need an MSD box.

Looks like GM -HEI.I knew HEI`s were made to fit small block ford V8`s.Speedway motors sells those.Where did you get one for Ford Six?

8) same place speedway motors got the david dui that fits the small block ford, performance distributors in memphis, tn. the people who manufacture the system.

Alright, I have the Pertronix, 8mm Accel wires and a 40,000 volt coil. My car runs super. Do I switch to this distributor? What do I get out of the switch?

8) i doubt that you will gain much switching from the pertronix to the dui, unless you have the load o matic.

If you have the LOM the DUI probally won't fit anyways. Hole and shaft size differences?
I was wondering if any Dyno testing has been done. I love to see a before and after dyno sheet on a heavily modded 200. Maybe comparing with a DS2 set-up.
--Guess R&D has been real busy (That's you ain't it Mike?)
--Time for a package deal on a whole ign. set-up, you know Dui dizzy/live wire set/ and live wire looms. Us guys with all those FSPP parts under the hood need some brotherly love. (maybe just throw in one of those purty chrome 1 wire alternators LOL)

The '65 and up 200s used the same shaft diameter as later blocks, as far as I know.

The advantages of the DUI? It uses a one-wire installation, can use standard HEI parts (coil, etc) and is easily adjustable. It's also curved for the 200 out of the box.
