I have a stock 200 with headers and 2" dual exhaust and Holley/Webber 2bbl and stock distributor with pertronix 1. I can not hookup the vacuum advance, when I try the engine will start missing and even backfire before it dies. I have tried to retard timing and the same thing happens. Checked the diaphragm and springs, even tried adjusting the pertronix gap and the sparkplug gap and no change. Thanks for any help

My guess is that is the old Load-a-matic issue... The stock distributor was made to work with the origional Autolight carb when it came to vacuum advance. There is some sort of Spark Control Valve in the carb that helped fuel economy when used with the Load-a-matic dizzy.

Unfortunatly, switching to the Weber 2 barrel no longer supplies that advance to the stock distributor. Many, many of us on the forums have experienced this. I know I have.

You have a couple of options. You could upgrade to a 1968 dual advance dizzy that did not rely on this input from the carb or switch to a Duraspark II unit.

This sticky is a good start: http://fordsix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18841

Also, do a search on Load-a-matic. You'll find all sorts of info.

HI AND WELCOME TO THE BOARD
Sounds like you are haveing a probleum with the stock type dizzy.. I have seen this issued befor. You might read the two sitckys 1) on the spark control and 2) on the load-a-madtic. You may have to go to the Duraspark II dizzy to cure the prob. As the carb you have might not work with your dizzy.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the fast reply. I will start looking for a duraspark II.
