Whats Fords newest inline 6 up to in horse power these days. I'm guessing they still have the turbo? Its been 2 1/2 years since I've been down under.

The Barra Turbo is still 240 kw but on dyno i think is almost identical to the 260 KW rated V8. There is a new uprated version coming out sometime in the near future called a Typhoon I think?.
The standard new Falcon is 182 KW @ but weighs 1800KG compaired to the previous AU Falcon at around 1500KG. Negates the gains in performance

depends how much cash you have to spend on the new motor, NIZPRO have just completed a kit you can buy for a cool $38,000 and makes 1000hp from the BA XR6T engine! Last i heard they going to try and crack 1600hp

Spend about $5000 Aust on a kit fully installed on a Barra Turbo 6 which includes exhaust system and chip upgrade and another 60kw is achieved easily. Some would say that this is budget performance on a vehicle that you can pick up for around 25K these days.
Who knows go to the right place and it could be done even cheaper.
It would handle like a dream too.

Actually I think that kit included a few other extras to get the 60 kw for $5000 from memory. Probably turbo and eb or au for that, for better total budget anyway.

Friend has a Series I BA XR6T with the Cobra stage 2 kit on it and it makes 307kw @ the wheels on 98 PULP. Great car to drive, but it's a hard to say this but I prefer his sons TS50 which is 293kw @ the wheels but sounds so much nicer! Yes I can beleive I said that too - I guess the stroked windsor really is that nice an engine! And the noise, Towel please!
Can't wait till he gets the heads ported and the short shift kit installed.

Why are my friends so lucky & I'm not?

Amen. The dear old Windsor and even the rather flat sounding 5.4 are way up in my favorite love ballads. Since the Falcon GT era of 1967, all the top line Falcons have wheelbarrow exhasts which vibrate in excess of 225 gross hp from the tail pipe. The last nice one was the XC Cobra and GXL 5.8, with 216 hp net. From 1979 to 2004, all Falcons lost the plot with the wind section totally messed up by the need to accomdate the base models Watts link axle and the need to have RH side pipes. toclear the spare wheel. Okay, the EB and EL GT were awesome sounding, but the the T3 was just brilliant. The latest Boss 290 engine sounds brilliant with the separate twin pipe!

The sixes need to use the current GT-P V8 exhast system. I love the latest factory dual set-up on the GT-P 290, it looks great, and has a sound almost as nice as a 342 Windsor.

The six has sounded lame ever since the single exhast. The only one I really liked was the 5-speed manual of the early EB XR6.

The latest XR6 is nice and mellow. When worked, they sound worse. If people want great sounds from there Barra 192, 240 or Typoon 270, they should add duals from the V8, and stop trying to copy Ricers who like there cars to sound like Humber 80's. Even a stock 5.0 XR8 from any year sounds better than our sixes.

If anyone here has ever heard the early 1979-1983 323i, the Falcon 6 should sound the same. That little car had a borring old non crossflow six with seperate twin pipes, and it sounded better than any Alfa.

the latest edition of "street machine fords"(i hate this mag and refuse to buy it because they constantly bag fords and there products but i will buy the ford only mag they sell) has a pic of the 1000hp xr6 turbo engine on the last page, its hooked up to the dyno and the full exhaust system is glowing bright orange,it looks unreal.the mag came out about a week ago and has a yellow xy on the front.

Hmmmm, a sure way to get a sun tan.
How long before the paint starts peeling on the valve cover?

daaaaamn! that pic is awesome, dont worry about the paint on the rockercover, worry about the paint on ya bonnet if you fit of those babys! That pic is just awesome and that engine must of been working long and hard to get the pipes glowing like that!

Anyone got any more pics of pipes glowing??? i remember an old HEMI 6 ad somewhere showed the old 265 with triple webbers had the pipes glowing real nice

hey
yeah i rember that pic of the hemi i think it was taken after 24hours into a 48 hour run at as hard as it whould rev to test it for bathurst lasted 48 hours to
mark

Bonnet nothing, I imagine the wings, firewall and maybe a bunch of the floorpan will be peeling! Carpet burning (but you won't notice the odor beyond that of the tyre tread on the road behind you...).
I'm imagining this in my '79 Zephyr wagon (U.S. Fairmont).
