Whats the deal with my motor?

i recently got my car back from the shop and it starts, but the idle sucks. whenever i give it gas its fine. but if i hold the gas down it makes a noise like its trying to suck in more fuel and dies. any ideas? thanks in advance for the help.

A loud sucking sound can be either a vacuum leak or the carb itself. Without hearing it, it's hard for me to tell.

i got it to run but if i even try to hold the pedal down for more than a second it just dies. the noise sounds kinda like when your'e sucking on a straw.....i duno how to describe it but is like it isnt getting gas. even though it will rev it just wont stay at a constant rpm besides idle. i think something got into the carb so im going to have a mechanic look it over. thanks again in advance.

Check fuel pressure & volume. Is the float level too low??. Is your fuel filter clogged?? Could be some trash in the carb bowl blocking the main jet?? This will give you some checks you can make. William
