Which To Build?

Picking up a 250ci this weekend and I already have a 200ci. The 250 is already set up with serpentine belt and PS. Providing it will even fit in my project,(hood clearance) which one would you build and why?

The 200 is easier to source parts and has a wider performance knowledge base to work from. The 250 built for performance is the end game for the original Falcon Six performance quest but few specific parts for 250 bulids are less common or unavailable aftermarket.

Although dimensionally very similar, the 250 will not usually readily bolt in to a vehicle designed for the 200. A few surgical or BFH mods can usually fix that.

Other than hood clearance the choice depends on your driving intentions for the vehicle: Daily Driver - Rock Crawler - Street/Strip - Show&Cruise etc...

I run a mild 170 moredoor wagon for Daily Driver and a wild 250 for fun.

170

250 (note hood clearance 8) )

I bought the 250 for $70. Actually only hoping for a better head than what I have. It's going in a 66 half cab Bronco, and have no idea if it will even fit due to diff in oil pan.(rear sump/front sump) I know absolutely nothing about these engines. It does come with a serpentine belt setup w/PS which would be nice. Figured for that price I couldn't lose even if I can't use it, part it out or scrap.

8) i woujld say it depends on what you want from the engine. if you are looking for raw low end torque, then go with the 250. if you are looking for good all around performance, including the occasional top end charge, then the 200 is the better choice.

Hey I just left a reply for you on classicbroncos. What vehicle did that 250 come from? I have never seen one with the serpentine belt. If you have questions about the 250 in my Bronco just let me know.

That's what I was going to say! You have a serpentine belt system on a 250? pictures? Did they have them in the 80's? sure it's not a 300? Anyhow, if you go with the 250, you'll need a SBF transmission, which opens up the option for an overdrive that might be real nice if you plan to drive on freeway with 4.11 posi. I'd go with the more low-end torque 250 than high reving 200 in a Bronco.

Seller said he bought it like that, came out of a combine. It will be interesting to see what I bought. Hope to pick it up this weekend. I'll post a pic if I can or at least a link to it.

So much for the 250. Drove 3 hrs today and near as I can tell its a C5PF 240 big block. Not a part I can use. Does have serpentine belt, power steering and bell housing. Guess I'll try to sell some parts and scrap it. Back to my 200 build. I was so ticked I just loaded it and came home. Only out $70 a little gas.

It will fit with some modifications, but doesn't suit my plans for this project. Would make a nice engine for a mudder or trail rig.
