200cui in my 66 Mustang

Hey

First of all, great that i found this forum, didn't knew it existed

I've just got my 66' Mustang running with it's 200cui inline6 - but it all seems kinda stock - the carb seems very small compared to what i've seen before.
The engine is running good - but what can i do to pull out some more power of this engine without spending to many $$?

Can u mention a few setups with approx prices ?

I'm kinda new into inline's :|

Hello and welcome

There are quite a few things you can do. some not to costly and others well hold on to your wallet. I would recomend that you go to this site and purchase this book http://falconperformance.sundog.net/ As for all your parts need go check out Mike's site at http://www.fordsixparts.com/

As for easy mods. a good tune up is easy and not to spendy. As for carbs. There are a lot of opinions out there. I have just installed a two barrell Holley. it's nice. others like the webber set up.

for ignitions. one of the more popular is to install a Ford Duro spark distributor.

And of corse just read through the posts on this site for some great information.

I don't know how much the engine has run, but it seems quite "new".
Can i do these 'upgrades' without "crashing" the engine after a few kilometers?

Summit seems to be quite cheap - but do they have the stuff i need?

You should say where you are! Junkyards in Denmark aren't likely to be as plentiful if you want to fool about with other heads, carbs and the like.

Engine life will mostly reflect the quality of your rebuild. Adding a few modifications, if done correctly, won't take that much life away from it.

Summit does not have much for our engines at all. Like most of the large perfromance catalog suppliers, they cater to the V8 crowd.

Haven't seen a tuned inline over here before - actually i guess there's only about 10-15 inline 6' mustangs in denmark - or in the danish mustang club..

Argentine heads are rare. On a side note, Argentina won their first World Cup soccer match, yesterday!!!!

For parts one of the best places I've found is the Marketplace section on this forum. You can get great deals when folks "clean their garages". Ebay is another good place for parts. The best place is Mike's http://www.fordsixparts.com. Then there's http://www.cliffordperformance.net and a few others as well.

Before you do anything, get the Falcon Performance Handbook and the read the Tech Tips on Mike's FSPP web site, so you don't waste much time and money. Once you've figured out the path you want to take with your car, search this Forum to find out how some of the other members went about it.

The above recipe worked out great for me. I've spent a bit more money up front, but I'll waste very little time and $$$ in the long run.

Yeah the marketplace seems to be a good place, if you live in the states - i'm from Denmark - it's not so easy to get parts to here.

I'll try to contact mike's and hear what they can do for me.

instead of looking for one of those hard to find argie heads just wait until mike(AzCoupe) is done testing the aluminm heads and get one of those from FSPP

Don't believe Denmark is much different than Finland here, we are close to each other anyway.

I'm sure you'll find some US car parts dealers there, and at least one Ford dealer who does US cars too. Build relationships with them and off you go. At least here the Ford dealer's spare parts chief owns a Mustang and some other guys there are active in our club too, so you'll never know what you'll find.

Ordering from the States is mostly easy, but air freights are expensive due to high gasoline prices and it sure is worth checking some competitive freight quotes (I just got offers ranging from $831 to $252 for a particular shipment). The big ones are good places to order. I use Summit and Northern Auto Parts, from their brands they can special order 6-banger parts if not in stock. For performance parts for your engine the ultimate power house is of course FSPP.

I just picked up 2 engines.

One of them is supposed to be a 200cui from a 65 Mustang

The other one might be from a 69 mustang - but don't know how big it is?

How do I find out how big and where the engines is from? Is there some codes on the block to tell me such things, and where should i look?

If they look the same external size, both are the same capacity. The 250 is noticeably bigger than a 200, and the 170 a little smaller.

Also the 250 has four bolts holding on the water pump, the 170 and 200 only three.

Inspect near the fuel pump mounting on the block; just up slightly. You should see a code with "6015" in the middle of it. That is the one you are looking for to date the motors.

Now i've been out looking at them and I found the 6015 codes.

Engine 1:
C9DE
6015 8 (perhaps the 8 is a B?)

Engine 2:
C4DE (perhaps the C is a G?)
6015-A

Is there a Decoder somewhere or?

Lots of decoders around. The "C" designates 1960's. The following number indicates the model year. So, C4... is 1964, while C9... is 1969 model year. I have to say the C4... unit may be a 170.

Did you count the water pump bolts?

So engine 1 must be a 250? And engine 2 is either a 170 or a 200?
