Carb Issues

Hi all this is my first post on this forum. I have a 65 Mustang with the 200 6 w/ a auto trans. I’m having carb issue. It runs great no hesitations and no flat spot. What is dose have is a poor idea, the car vibrate and I can’t get it to smooth out in drive. It’s ok in neutral and park. I don’t know much about this type of carb but I know it missing some parts. I rebuilt it but the vent system linkage is missing and someone has plugged the port it goes to, this is on the top of the carb. It may be due to some type of smog requirement, although I live in Las Vegas and it doesn’t have to be smog here and as far as I know it wouldn’t have to be smog in Ca. either, so I don’t know why it’s removed. Does anyone know how this will affect my idle and what can I do about it. And Please any and all info you can give on this carb would be greatly appreciated. I should mention that it has some type of electronic ignition, and I don't know how it effect the carb, and I don't know much about the ignition. It has a good tune up on it.

Thanks all in advance Gene

Howdy Back Gene:

And welcome to THE Forum. I'm about 500 miles north on I 15 and looking at the weather in LV and wishing I was there. It's cold and snowy here.

Your miss sounds more like an electrical problem than carburation. Since it's smooth at idle, but misses under load, I'd start by checking the spark plugs to see what they tell you. It could be a marginal plug or plug wire that fires at idle, but can't handle a load. If your spark plugs have a few miles on them, it might be a good time to put in a fresh set. If your spark plug wires are OEM, you might want to consider upgrading them too. Let us know what you find when you pull the spark plugs.

Adios, David
