Carb question...involves the new header

Hi,

On a stock exhaust manifold there are two springs that go from the accelerator assembly to two screws on the exhaust manifold. I installed the header I got from FSPP and I don't know what to do about the springs. There is also a pipe that goes from the carb to the side of the manifold. It has a curved plate that covers the end of the pipe where it meets the manifold. What do I do about the springs and pipe?

Thanks,

Justin

I just reconnected the pipe onto the header. The springs need to be reconnected to keep the throttle from falling to the floor. I think the little curved pipe either uses the heat of the manifold for something or it is there to recieve some gases from the carb??? I can't exactly remember but i'm sure someone will chime in soon.

On a different note, have you thought about a carb upgrade? Now that you've got those headers installed, you should throw a 2bbl on there for some more kick :). You'll get an increase in performance and gas mileage. Holley carb (http://www.stoveboltengineco.com/catalog/08-8008.htm) is 65 bucks and a spacer from clifford is about $70. All you have to do then is fab up some linkage and you have yourself a hot little 6!

Finally, what kind of ignition are you running? I'd ditch the points and throw an eletronic ignition on there. Pertronix can be added for 65 bucks plus a little more for a new coil. Duraspark 2 can be added for more money and more time. I've installed both on 6's and personally like the look and benefits of the Duraspark 2 more.

Shoot me an email if you have any questions. I had my stang running great before I sold it! With the ignition, induction and exhaust upgrades, my car was running like no stock 6cyl could ever :).

Mike,

I have many upgrades in mind for the future, including the ones you mentioned. I just have to find a new job. I am running out of money. :(
I will probably do a 2bbl carb upgrade first, then focus on the ignition. This winter I want to take the engine out and repaint the engine bay. I might do some internal mods to the engine while it is out of the Stang. Thanks for the help Mike.

Drill a 1/8" hole through the motor mount and attatch the springs there. You will have to hook them to a short piece of small chain or wire to extend there reach.
