Well, I finally found a used Offy 5970 triple intake adapter I've been on a quest for and am going to be putting it on my 73 Mav with a 200. Too many people are saying drop a 302 in there but as we're all aware there's something about sixes that's just plain cool. I like being able to reach through and pick up that wrench when I drop it. Besides, I'll be able to keep my working A/C, not have to deal with front end changes, rounding up all the parts, etc.
As with any project, any pics of somebody elses conversion would be helpful. I'm going to document it on my end with photos for the next guy.
While I've got a Holley 5200 on there right now, I've still got the original Carter YF62459 so I'm opening this discussion wide open for all insights, tuning tips, carb selection, re-jetting, etc. I'm trying to get this done as affordably as possible so it won't be a project that has all primo highest dollar stuff available.
I'm not going to be racing it or showing it but want the job to look good and add a little performance.
The head was rebuilt about 14K miles ago using the hardend valves (previous owner) so I think I'll be OK with bolting it back on there as is. Money's got a lot to do with that decision as well. Guess it makes sense to replace all the seals while it's off.
I've got a set of factory manuals for the car but this will be the first time I've gotten any deeper than just the valve covers on a motor from the top side. Tips and insights on removal and reinstallation are appreciated.
I'll also be adding headers at the same time and am going to fabricate an extension for my A/C mounting brackets so I can leave the refrigerator sized compressor above the alternator. Looks like I'll just need to move it out an inch or so to get the clearance I need between the compressor and front exhaust outlets.
Anyway, I think y'all get the general idea of where I'm trying to get with the car. I'll appreciate your help.
