Crankshaft Clearance Problem when Degreeing Cam

While rebuilding my 66 200ci 6 cyl. Ford engine I am having a clearance problem (between camshaft and the rotation of the Rod Journals) when I attempt to advance or retard the camshaft. I can only have any clearance between the camshaft and Connecting Rod, when I install the timing gear at straight up zero degrees. I want to degree in my camshaft properly, but feel I am being forced to this one choice of straight up zero degrees for any cam/ rod clearance.

Despite all these articles & videos showing degreeing in a 200ci 6 cylinder cam, I can see no way possible for me to degree in my cam with these clearance problems.

Has anyone else come across this cam/ Connecting Rod clearance problem ?

8) rod/cam lobe clearance is an issue for any cam in block engine. how much cam are you running? and how much clearance do you have when you install the cam straight up? and how close is the rod bolt and cam lobe when you advance or retard the cam? sometimes you can grind the rod bolt head to gain the clearance necessary as you usually miss by a few thousandths of an inch.

What parts are you using to advance or retard are you useing? Sp;lit keys? offset dowel pins? or three key crank gear?

I think you are going WAY too far advance or retard on this. Unless you are using aluminum rods.
