Electric Fan Question

This might be a dumb question but I will ask. Is it better to push or pull air using an electric fan?

Either will work but the blades of the fan are angled to pull air normally. You can put the fan in front if your model of electric fan allows you to remove and flip the fan blades.

I highly recommend adding a thermostatic switch.

Ive heard it's generally better to mound the fan on the rear and pull it in. If room allows, do that. If mounted on the front, the blades can block some of the airflow.

i used a couple of pullers and have clearence issues but made it work

But, when you pull towards the engine, aren't you blowing hot air onto the engine?

No matter what sort of fan/setup, it's going right onto the engine. I reckon the temps are negligible. The temps in the engine are up to a few hundred degrees. The hot air from the radiator is no where near that.

put dual fans, my fans actually blow cool air because they put out alot more air then the stock fan. as far as clearences, you may need to cut into the protective grill of the fan to accomidate the pullys

Seeing how that exhaust gasses are in the 1200 to 1500F range the hot air from the fan (what 120F?) is no big deal. If you are concerned about it going thru the carb then add a cold air duct to the air cleaner inlet.

I cant imagine that the fan blades would cause any more air restriction than a air conditioning condenser would.

What I've read is that the fan is more efficient as a puller versus a pusher. A fan will draw more of the rated air flow thru the radiator than push it though. It makes sense to me. A a pusher, some of the air is blocked or deflected back then it hits the radiator, etc. As a puller it can only get air from one place; that's thru the radiator. I'm sure someone has done research or has test results. Maybe search the internet to verify?
