Hi guys,
What is the preffered exhaust header to manifolf gasket, the packing style or the steel one, I tried the steel thinking it would hold up better but it leaks, I am open for ideas. Mine is a 68 Mustang with a 65 engine Mustang.

Are you flanges warping? Are your bolts stayin tight? Most of the time I have had leaks its been due to warpage or on headers loose bolts. My buddy is now using the aircraft type of bolts with the wires to lock them.

The pipe with flange have about 1000 miles on them, the studs are fine I have removed the pipe and ran the nuts up they are ok, I use grade 8 nuts but am afraid to tighten too much, and breaka stud, thats why I was wondering about using the soft donut rather than the steel one.

If you do use the fiber one, you have to be careful with how much torque you put on it. They squish. A little conformation is good but it's easy to go too far.

Another option would be to pull the manifold (just to make it alot easier on yourself) and steel flange, and file/grind away till the flange and manifold are flush and sealed together.
