Alright guys here is what I want to ask, I'm pretty sure I have a 200 but the engine when I bought it is not original, I want to know what year the engine was made, where would I find the info to ID it, and how would I be able to decode it?
While you're at it youy maight as well ID the Head too. The casting code is on the intake log just behind the carb. Decoding it is the same as Anlushac described. On a replacement engine it is not unusual for the head and the block casting numbers to be different. Heck, it's not even unusual for them to be different from the factory.
i have an old head sitting in my back shed, the markings behind the carb say CODE-6090 0 112
Then infront of the carb says the firing order of 153624
Im thinking its a 170 head but not too sure. It came with the purchase if my 61 falcon along with a whack of 3spd 2.77 parts . I believe the car has a 7 main 170. is that weird?
Hey Rielly- You really should start a new post for your questions about your head, but as long as you're here, the C0xx casting is most likely from a 1960 falcon with a 144 ci engine. IT was used exclusively on 144s from 1960 until the end of the 144 in 1962. The 170 engine came out in 1961 with a C1xx casting code.
What is the casting code on the block of your mystery 170?
alrighy, i will start a new subject, ill do it once i check all the casting numbers on both my engines and the extra parts. i hope this subject will get attention scince i have never heard of a 170 7 main before!
