new carb is alot of fun (pics)

Its great to see success stories in carb swaps. I wish my swap had turned out just as good. I swapped the dizzy to a DUI with the original 1100 autolite and it ran fairly well, I could tell that there was a little bit of difference but not huge. Then i swapped the carb to a used holley 2300 and everything went to hell afterward. I could not get the carb tuned and it leaked, so i decided to bite the bullet and buy a new demon carb, and so i did. I tried the demon and it fared no better it just didnt leak. I think my timing is completely out of whack but i dont have the resources or tool or friends that can help with that. Therefore i need to somehow get the thing to run and get it to a mechanic who could set the timing and tune the demon cuz i am definitely not so good at it. Anyways sorry for venting, but yea thats my story. If anybody has any suggections or advice i could try, here are the symptoms of my problems. The car is really hard to start, but when it does start, the engine idles very high. When i give it some gas, it revs up and then goes back to idle, but the idle does not go below 900rpm no matter what i try. I have tried to decrease the idle mixture, decrease the idle speed, retard the timing. The effect of any of those is that the idle speed slows down but the car starts running much rougher.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

rbohm,

How high does that Air Filter sit above the top of the Stovebolt HW5200 carb? It looks like it might be a drop down setup but I couldnt really tell. How tall is the filter that fits in that air cleaner housing? Thanks.

8) the air cleaner sits on top of the carb, there is no drop to that air cleaner. it is about 6" tall or so, so make sure you have hood clearance.

too bad you don't live closer i'd give you a hand with it.
Have you done a compression check ? are there any vacuum ports open? if it ran good before the carb swap, I would start there.i'd try to get back to where it ran good and try to find the problem.

I know i wish somebody on this forum lived closer to me so i can get advice and tips and help if need be.

Oh wells i will try my best

Thanks!

OK, I'm an idiot... but what carb and adapter are you using? I may be interested in doing this carb swap myself.
I'm new to the sixes and would like to know too...

250mav - Any info would be helpful, plus I am not too far from you, and work in Wilmington...

sorry, ive been away for a while and havent been checking up on my posts over here.

1slow, there was a ford six guy that emailed me the other day, im assuming that was you? if not let me know if you plan on attending any of the local car shows and i'll try to catch up with you. my intitial post gave alot of info about the carb and adapter, its a used piece originally from summit racing, the carb is a HW5200 also used, but rebuild by tom from stovebolt. aside from a few bolts from the parts store and a fule filter it was everything i needed.

good luck and dont get discouraged. its well worth it in the end

I don't think I emailed you, but stranger things have happened...

Tell me more about these events? I would love to meet up with car people, and ones that have experiance with things I want to do with my car even better... :D

i pm'd you some info about some of the local shows. always happy to see a new face. its usually the same guys and same cars at every local event so something new is always welcome, in any condition. theres a ton of mustang guys too that could get you situated probably better than me, but you'll be the only 6 powered stang on the block 8)
