NOT my week...

Well, finally got the parts needed to start hookin up my temp gauge, thought I would try to put the sensor in the rear of the head, see if it would work. WELL... When I unscrewed the sensor in the rear, of course coolant started coming out. I expectad it, but what I DIDNT expect was that it looked brown. I pu my hand in it and it was oily. It appears oil has gotten into my coolant. SO, I added some oil to top off the motor and when I checked it, the oil on the dipstick was runny and watery, like, you could see the water and the oil swirlin thru it. I am takin it to the shop tomorrow to spend my hard earned money that was goin towards my new T5 on whatever they find wrong with it. Yall got any ideas?? Cracked head maybe??? Oh well, kinda bummed, this week woulda been it for the T5 and I would have had enough to get it goin, BUT no. Funny thing is, last time i nearly had the money, I had somethin else go wrong and had to get it fixed. Im cursed guys!!!!!!! Anyways, lemme know what yall think, place your bet on what you think the culpret is and Ill let you know whats up

Cracked head, or blown head gasket is most likely the problem. Either of those is pretty cheap and easy to fix. HEads you know you can pick up cheap and easy, and gasket replacement isn't much either. IT's more labor involved then anything else.

Are you sure it's not condensation in the oil? Was the engine warm? Hot coolant is muddy (and sometimes oily) looking compared to it's cool appearance.

A compression test will reveal any head gasket issues. Billowing white smoke from the exhaust and overheating is a good sign of a cracked head in my experience.

Try to relax though. Cracked heads aren't all that common, and a small crack can be treated with one of those sealing compounds (we have one called Chemi-Weld) that will get you through a few months. They do require NO antifreeze or water conditioners - these products eat out the you-beaut sealing chemical!

Hot or cold, your coolant should NEVER be muddy or oily.

Sounds like a cracked cylinder bore. If you take the radiator cap off, top off the radiator, then blip the throttle. If coolant shoots out the filler, it's probably a cracked head or blown head gasket.

Im kinda hopin its a cracked head. That 66 head is givin me nothin but trouble. When I got the car there were 2 bolts broke off for the valve cover = oil seapage, a bolt broke off for the exhaust manifold, nothin major, and then the rear bolt eye for the exhaust broke. When it was rebuilt, the shop overlooked these things and Im still screwed SO... if the head is cracked, please God let it be, I will be goin with a 78-82 head. I would LOVE to go for the Aussie but cant find one cheap enough unfortunately. I should know in the next couple days what the verdict is. I found an 82 head rebuolt for $180. I will check with them on performance options for it. Does that price sound ok or should i keep looking. If anyone has a cheap aussie head :roll: holler my way, I might be able to swing it.

Just to add to the week from _______ (fill in the blank)... I was at a cruise in for mostly tuner guys this past Friday night. It was butt cold, and I was the only American car there other than this 3.8 Stang that the owner couldnt be found, but it was alot of fun. Most of the guys were real respectful and alot of them got a kick out of the Stang. WELL... When I went to leave, I warmed her up, said goodbye to everyone, shook some hands etc etc and got in to go. I put her in drive and started moving, then when I got on the throttle to pull out of the parking lot, the throttle went redline REAL quick and I went nowhere, just rolling under inertia. I stoped and tried again, she moved, but not very well. I limped her home ( a couple blocks away) and she eventually started driving right but when I put her in park, she stayed in gear?!?!?!?!? I went back out to take a friend home and when I put it in reverse it was in drive instead and nearly took out the garage wall. REDICULOUS!!!!!!!! Well, guess that means the T5 is closer than I was expecting. Now I just need to get a couple hundred more $$$$ and itll be on its way. Oh well, maybe next week will be better :roll:
On another note, went out to the Hunters Custom Auto Expo, saw a fellow fordsixer, but not real sure his name now that I think of it. He had a SWEET 66 sprint and it was a thrill to go to that show and see it there.
