All Small Six Pinto 2 blade fan on 200

Has anyone mounted a Pinto 2 blade fan onto a 200 waterpump? Do the blades have the same diameter?


Reason:
I am planing on getting a little bit more horsepower out of my already mildly modified 200.
For now the plan is to get rid of my current high flow water pump and switch from the standard 4 blade mechanical fan to a 2 blade mechanical fan, both to achieve less parasitic loss.
Overheating was not a problem until now even in the summer sitting in traffic, and electric fans are not an option for my car (it has to stay in more or less original state, my car is registered as a "classic" car in my country and the law is very strict regarding modifications).
 
I don’t even remember ever seeing a two blade fan here. I had a 74(I think) pinto squire. 2300 engine. My first car🥹🥹
 
Why do you "need" the extra HP? Drag racer, or street guy? A cool engine is way more important than 5 hp
 
Is there any reason why you’d not want to have an electric fan? I switched to an electric fan and I find it cools better than the 6 blade fan I had on mine. I notice that my car idles better without dragging the fan around too. It’s connected to a temp sensor that switches a relay AND I can override it with a toggle switch in my dash if I need to turn it on manually.

I picked up a 16” and it is ever so slightly too deep to fit between the radiator and the water pump pulley so I have fitted it in front as a pusher fan. I considered moving the radiator forward 1/2” so I could install it as a puller but it does cool very well as a pusher fan. If I were to do it again, I would find that 2-fan setup from a Ford Contour or one of the similar setups so that I could put it all in the engine bay.

@wme013 you are right, a cool engine is important! In fact I don't have overheating problems with the ebgine right now, and from what I've read and seen depending on the fan it can rob up to 20hp, that is quite a lot.

@awasson I am not allowed to install electric fans in my car, by law it has to be basically period correct, has something to do with insurance...

Right. After I get the bodywork done (it has had the roof replaced and need to be repainted) I’m going to see if I can get collector plates and reduced insurance for mine. Both of my motorcycles have collector plates and it costs a fraction of what regular insurance would cost. I think I might have a hard time getting collector insurance on mine with the adjustments I’m made.
 
No, you wouldn’t have a hard time. With Hagerty all you need to do it have another daily driver and keep it in the garage. You can set the value of it too👍

Thanks. Great tip. I was pondering that too. My insurance comes up in the spring so I was thinking of checking in with them. I know an old primary school friend is with them so I’ll be reaching out to him about that.

They have a sort of mileage limit too. But it doesn’t include going to car shows and it’s normally plenty. They have never asked for any documentation of mileage, in 15+ years.
Isn’t there a regular car show down by the auto parts store and another one by the grocery store???😂😂

Thanks I did not know that about collector plates and reduced ins. I have my 66 Bronco and a 1970 Triumph.
 
Just tell the inspectors that you are an environmentalist and it is the original engine with a more environment friendly cooling system. If they say no then tell them that the green deal must then be nothing but a power grab.

Maybe, I have Hagerty for my 67 mustang, but the 73 Bronco was denied, had to be in excellent or better condition as an off road capable vehicle. Even though I don’t take it off road they had a condition requirement.

Hagerty declined to cover my 66 convertible too, even though I had an appraisal from a certified, accredited appraiser for the value. I ended up with Grundy and am very happy with the rate and coverage, although I've not had to make a claim.

I need to check my paperwork, I only see it once a yr. I gave them a value of 5k for my coupe, whole in storage and in need of work. I had to send photos, but they are insuring it. Cost is $50 ish a yr
