MY car isnt starting, havent fired it in about a year. I got a brand new optima yellow top, but its grounded to the block? Is this normal. On a side note, my car wont start. The starter turns the engine, but it never fires, any sugguestions.

get a gas can and put some new gas in it,pull your spark plug wires and hold the ends of them right over the plugs an have someone crank it an see if you're getting spark, pull the fuel line from the carb and see if it's getting gas.And yes I think it's normal to ground to the block.

no prob and I hope my 2 cents was worth something and I hope you get her runnin :)

Yes it is normal for the battery to ground to the block. As for the starting issue, I always check my choke first, always seems when the car has issues starting its because the choke is stuck wide open, especially on cooler mornings. Of course, double check all you wires are still on properly a lot can happen in a year.

Exactly what do you mean by
"I got a brand new optima yellow top, but its grounded to the block?"

What part or parts of the coil are you grounding?

From what ive heard yes. Especially if your running any extras like a stereo or fog lights etc. Ive been thinking about running deep cycle marine battery in mine since I am running some pretty serious stereo equipment.

are those optima batteries worth it? I was thinking about getting one in the future.

In my humble opinion, YES! They may not be for everyone, but if you put heavy demands on your battery, or especially if your charging system puts out relatively high voltage, then they are great. I had a GMC pickup that charged at almost 16 volts, it boiled my Diehard so badly that it slobbered all over the place, I had to clean it up every two or three months. No slobbering with the Optima. You can drain them DEAD and it doesn't hurt them, freeze them at -20 F, no damage. Yup, I did that too  Napa sells a similar battery, I put a Napa marine starting deep cycle in my F-350 just this winter, so far it works great. They aren't cheap, however.

These are high tech batteries, jel filled originally designed for aircraft. Check out Ebay. There are battery outfits that have regular auctions. I contacted the outfit directly for the correct Red Top for my daughters GTI.

Do some research on the web on these; they have different designations on the end of the part number like “Râ€￾ for Reverse Pole. Also check what your demands on your system are. The yellow top is the top performer and most systems don’t need that amount of energy. The Red Top aren’t as expensive, just before Christmas I received the battery shipped to the Seattle area for just under $100.00.

Have fun, Ric.

all of my cars have these dry cell batteries. I use the red top in my stock cars, the yellow is for my mustang because i dont drive it reguralry, for now  In my mercedes with 4 LCDs, and 1750 watts of audio i use a blue top. I see about .8 more volts on my capicator using a blue top rather than a stock battery, and i can run accessories longer with out the car being on. Still need advice on getting the mustang started tho.
Yellow top is not the highest performner, the blue top is.
