hi all, been visiting this forum for a while. i have been very interested in the idea of turbo charging a 300 ford. have read topic after topic and have a few questions still. please answer any or all that you can.
1. in a carb version, how are you feeding the intake into the carb?
2. from what i believe i have read, 300 stock rods are forged, right?
3. where to get low comp. forged pistions?
4. biggest one of all, what are you using for a turbo exuast manifold?

thanks guys, i just havent found these answers yet.
also if someone has completed this already, is there a right up on their work or a site? thanks again. and great site :D

1) It depends. On a draw-thru the carb is mounted on the inlet of the turbo; on a blow-thru it's on the outlet. The differences are substantial. A draw-thru cannot use an intercooler because of the possibility of fuel puddling and explosion so it's somewhat limited in performance. It's also somewhat simpler to implement since all you need for a fuel system is a bigger carb. The blow thru can work with a much smaller or even a stock carb but it will probably need to be modified to withstand the boost pressure and it needs a boost referenced fuel supply to deliver uninterrupted fuel as pressure increases.

2) Stock rods are forged but you really want to have them prepped, shot-peened and fitted with ARP bolts for a boosted engine.

3) Any of the normal piston sources can help out, but you may not need or want forged. There's a strong minority view that under about 9-10 PSI you're better off with KB hypereutectic cast pistons.

4) Yeah, that is the pi**er isn't it. The old carb engine single outlet exhaust is easily adaptable but doesn't flow for crap and the newer EFI split exhausts need a y-pipe adaptor or a complex small twin-turbo setup. Clifford sells (or used to, who knows WHAT they sell any more) pre-cut exhaust flanges so you could fab up your own high flow heavy-wall single outlet manifold with a turbo flange on the outlet. You're pretty much on your own here there is no commercial source although there was one guy, I forget who talking about fabbing up turbo manifolds a few weeks back.

The guy that is working on the turbo exhaust manifold is http://www.40bob.com at least he said he will do the 300.

Silvolite sells some low compression hyper silicon pistons that are strong and cheap, they were ment for UPS Trucks.
Isky sells a turbo cam for the 300 that is ment for about 7 pounds of boost.

The parts are out there. You just have to dig like crazy to find them.
