OK, I know, LOTS of T5 questions, Im sorry but no-one else is being very helpful, thats why I love you guys. Neways... I am doin the T5 swap, duh, but I want to put in a clutch that will hold up to the power of the Turbo 200 when it happens. I dont wanna put in a crap clutch that will crap out as soon as the turbo goes in, you know. Thats why Im goin with a World Class V8 tranny in the first place. Anything else I might beef up while Im at it?!?!?

well the 2.3L turbo guys have no problems as long as you use a good clutch (no parts store mexico reman's) I had a centerforce II on my tc that I got a good deal on ($200 total for plate and disc) but the plate was just a luk or so with weights added so I would just get a name brand plate and a good disc and it should be fine. if you want you can get puck style dics and all for a 2.3L (9" disc) not sure about plates though since those are different on these older cars (borg beck) if you have a diaphram style then I would just get a whole setup for a 2.3L. they offer a whole range. but I think for a mild turbo setup on street tires a stock/namebrand clutch will be fine.

btw these guys are putting out aolt of power with no real clutch problems other than that SBF setups are way cheaper.

While the clutch composition is important, the pressure plate is what's clamping it to the flywheel. Don't forget a performance pressure plate as well.

Call Summit racing, they are an authorized RAM dealer...

I bought the Heavy Duty RAM clutch kit for the 67 3.3L (this is the 9" flat flywheel... not the 8 1/2)

It comes complete with a Diaphram Clutch disc, pressure plate, and throwout bearing... 133.00 takes about three weeks to order from RAM... as they do not carry it in stock, and it is not listed in the catalog.

PN# RAM 88727....

I love this clutch, very tough, lots of wear from my driving habits and it broke in great, add a cable clutch kit and you will be all set... besides the price is nice and replacements are easy!
 
I drive hard, I mean HARD. I will definitely put it thru its paces, will the RAM hold up. I am split between Centerforce or Ram. I like the sounds of the RAM kit tho!!! How much was your cable conversion, that would be awesome!!! Oh well, also, what shifter are yall usin??? I am gettin a stock one with the tranny, but I will upgrade to somethin like a Tri-ax, pro 5.0 or B&M Ripper.

I have the same clutch in mine, and my sentiments are exactly the same...great clutch!

Ok, thread hijack in progress.

I am putting 4 cyl T5 in my '66. I thought my car would have the 8 1/2" clutch with the bi-level flywheel. I have a flat flywheel and a 9" clutch disc. The 4 cyl T5 clutch is 8 1/2" and looks pretty wimpy.

Is there a 9" clutch that will fit the 4 cyl T5?
 
The only cable conversion IMHO that is worth anything, and I tried two, listened to advice from everyone, and Mustang Steve has the best kit, the pivot mount on top works the best, and feels the most like a new car than any I found. Get the adjustable cable stop - makes life easy as the cable breaks in.

As for shifter, that is entirely up to you... I am using a Por5.0 shifter with a 2.77 handle mounted in place of the short T5 handle and Hurst Knob... Love it!
IIRC - Rick installed the Mustangs Plus re-location on his...

This shifter is much nicer than stock, but costly... (and mine is a clone, not the real Pro5.0... but the same design.)

My T5 is the 2.3L geared... use the 9" flywheel from your existing tranny, get a 9" clutch and install... should not make a difference which one the T5 had prior, as long as your all setup with the correct plate, clutch, bearing, and such....
 
Haven't yet been able to find a 9" clutch via the net. The 2.3 clutch is the 8 1/2" one and the V8s used a 10" clutch. Still looking.
 
Yes, the T5 is "world class" - the 3rd world, where 6 cylinder is a limo motor.
Folds instantly when used behind a serious motor.
Look at the max torque limit some time, then compare to A833, S-T10, DN, Richmond, etc.
 
are their any performace clutches for the 8.5" flywheel with a t5? i have been searching but i have yet to find any thing as of now!
 
Ok, can I use Mustang Steves cable conversion with my 66 bellhousing??? If so, thats what im goin for. I like his products, and that fastback on the front of his site is wicked nice!!!!!

Ok, it seems the '83-87 Mustangs with the 2.3 and a T5 used a 9" clutch. After '87, they went to the 8.5".

Gonna visit a friend who works at the big Napa in town and check them out.
 
on the 2.3L ALL non turbo cars have an 8.5" clutch. the turbo cars are the only ones with a 9" clutch. look for ones for Turbocoupes, SVO's, and merkurs.
