Well got the block back last Weds night and put it all together Thurs and Fri night. Got it timed initially @ 11 degrees BTDC, 13-14 adv centrifically and no vacuum adv hooked up. Started with 72 jets, too rich, so went to 68 jets and still there. Problem is from 1000-2000 rpms I have a bog, but after 2000 rpms it shoots out like a rocket. It does this boosted and NA. I am going to play w/ timing some more, maybe even hook up the port side vacuum to the adv on the dizzy. Just needs something till the boost starts coming on, the engine feels bland until it hits.
To let y'all know took it to a bronco "get-together" this weekend here in Texas and Holley carb does not like rockin' around and climbing rocks too much, but it did good though. Everyone was just about to crap in their pants over the turbo'ed six, lots of heads turned when the BOV let loose and I got a lot of nice compliments (feels good). One guy from Turbonetics was there and took lots of pics of the engine, especially the Turbonetics carb bonnet.
And I couldn't get out of there with out doing the sand drags, even though only ten hours on the new engine 'cause got a "reputation" to protect. After winning two of the drags, "POP" goes the head gasket and steam out of the exhaust, but it still runs, limping back to the trailer. So that is where I stand. I have the Fel-Pro left over from the engine rebuild kit and will use that for now (WOW, 3 head gaskets in less than 3 months).
Long story short, I thought turbo was over spinning, it was making a very high piched whine in higher rpms, suspected waste-gate actuator and yes it was stuck closed. Made a loud "pop" when I used the air hose to it. It seems to keep the boost down now, I haven't really checked it yet, and I did take off that manual boost controller.
That's all for now, more later. Adios.
