Hey does any one know if you can modifiy a vortec supercharger to fit a 300, cause my friends lookn to sell his (it's from a 96 V6 S10) I know i would have to custom make mounting brackets, but would it be worth it?
 
The Vortec needs RPM to make boost. It can be belted to make boost at 3500-4000 on a 300, but it will give you nothing at 1500-2000 which is where you're likely to want it. A positive displacement blower or a turbo is a much application on a 300.
 
coulden't I put a different pulley on it and change that or will that still be just at the higher RPM's
 
It's the nature of a centrifugal blower that the boost increases with RPM. On a typical 302 Mustang they add a lot of HP at 5500-6000 but very little to none at lower revs. If changed thepulley ratios so that the blower was making good boost at 2/3 the RPM of the 302, the point were it begins to make boost would also drop to 2/3 of what it is on a 302. No way around it. If you spun it fast enough to make decent boost at lower revs, it would disintegrate at high revs.

A positive displacement blower (Eaten, Whipple, etc.) delivers constant boost throughout it's RPM range, a much more truck-like device. A turbo gives boost on demand and is way more efficient than any belt-driven blower.
 
or you could add some nitrous to get you up to speed before the boost kicks in. but that would be expensive if you used it frequently.
 
Isn't the 300-6 a low rpm engine? I thought it lost most of its grunt after about 3500rpm.
 
Torque peak at 2000, HP peak at 3500 in stock trim.
They can be built to turn more, but not without sacrificing some of the low RPM performance that makes them such good truck engines.
 
Well is there any thing besides NO2 that will really boost the low end.
 
If you're looking for a ready-made bolt on kit, forget it;nobody offers one. If you want to boost your 300, you have to roll your own.

There has been alot of discussion about using an Eaton M90 from a 3.8L T-Bird Super Coupe, and it should work nicely, but I don't know of anybody who'd done the deed.

There's also been a lot of discussion about turbos. The T03 Super 60 looks good for a workhorse engine running in the stock RPM range, a small trimmed T04 looks better for one that's built as a strip/street engine. Several people have tried turbos with mixed results.
