i was thinking about buying an o2 sensor and tapping it into my exhaust on my 80 200. that way i could hook an air fuel ratio gauge so i can tune my carb with ease for smog. because i am having trouble tuning my carb to perfect factory specs. any help would be appreciated. the car is #9771 which is the same as the #1946.

It'll work BUT you have to have a wideband sensor. They're pretty expensive. The narrowband kind will only read a couple percent range and can't really tell between really rich and really lean.

Should work fine.

I could be wrong but I thought you are supposed to mount the bung and sensor a inch or two after the pipes merge but before the collector flange?

any where mounted before the cat will give you a correct reading on the lean/rich condition. the further done the pipe just effects the time it takes for the sensor to heat up. alot of cars have them mounted on the pipe and some are mounted in the manifold and everywhere between. i would have been able to tell you if it works if i didn't run out of welding wire last night.

I have the gauge installed but havn't done the sensor on the Falcon yet. I did this on my Harley (heavily modded with a LARGE carb)and used a regular gauge and a 4 wire sensor and had no problem at all. For real life on the go jetting info i am sold. I plan on installing just back of the collector as i did on my HD. The Harley being Hi Comp and air cooled i keep it slightly to the rich side of Stoich.
