Billr57 - That certainly does look very cool. I'd have to vote for the first picture. I'm wondering, did you go to a CAI for hood clearance issues or performance? Seems like there is a lot of debate about the performance gains of CAI's.

I had to go this way because of hood clearance issues, I only have about 3" of clearance from the top of the Carb to the bottom of the Hood.

Thanks

Bill

I like the looks of the first one over the second, but the second one is probably going to give you better air flow into the carb since it is placed in the grill area. But personnally, I don't care for this look since it does have that "ricer" look...sorry. :( I guess I'm just too old school. Too bad you can't find a conventional type of air cleaner that would fit under the hood. Have you seen this one from Summit? It's low profile( just 2 inches ) but the 14inch diameter may cause problems at the outer edges. Might work though.

What is the incoming air pressure at the new location? Just wondering if it's a bit stagnant.

It is my understanding that the area between the grill and the radiator is generally a high pressure area when the car is moving at speed.

Let's see. you've go an extra bend for more restriction, plus you really can't drive in the rain unless you put a shield around it for protection from the elements. However, I like it better. Your air temp should average 100* cooler than underhood air and your motor doesn't require that much air that the restriction matters that much. I vote for number 2, with a shield.

made it this far, might as well add a turbo. :D

I think they both look about the same. Id go with 2, due to its potential increase in function. Id go with 1 if aesthetics were more of a concern.

I like the way the first one looks better, but probably number 2 will get you more cold air. Of course, a hood scoop can get cold air in there too!

I like the way the first one looks. Afterall, I have the same setup.

But, the second one will work work better in my opinion. Plus, the rain thing is a myth. A lot of 5.0's, other late models, & imports get fresh air from the grill or from under the valance.

BTW...You should oil the valve cover filter for the oil filler.

I like the looks of the 1st one better but I know the second one will perform better.

Theres a formula in my Holley book that gives the percentage of increasce for HP produced vs every 10 degrees cooler the intake air is.

Well worth the effort especially on our motors where the carb hangs overe the header.

Doug

Bill, great job, i would run #1 in the winter & # 2 in the summer.

How about giving us the makers of the carb adapter & the intake tube & air filter, & where you purchased them. Thanks Bill

I think the bonnet is from a ATI Procharger. The air filter can be found anywhere and the tubing for the second one is a kit which is made by Spectra.
