I am going to try and post a pic of my direct mount milling of the log. It isn't perfect but good enough I believe. I am thinking of boring a coupl of extra holes where mysharpie indicates.

Harwell and Son's out on Hi-Way 9 East of Norman about 4 or 5 miles West of Tecumseh on the South side of the Hi-Way. If you use him get there early in the AM....You'll know why when he calls you to come and get it. Reasonable about $70.00. He is the same guy that shaved the log off of my 65 head:

Darwin, thanks for posting pics, it'a always good to see work in process. Say it looks like your air cleaner just clears the valve cover. How tall iof an adapter plate did you have to use to get clearance?

Jay

Actually Jay that particular cleaner sits about an inch lower on the carb mount than the original. It sits above the valve cover about 3/4". My spacer is 1" and the main reason I used it is so the throttle shaft linkage would clear the log. I have about 1/8" clearance where the linkage sits over the log. I can probably sit it lower by grinding the linkage a bit. One top of the 1" spacer I have a phenolic spacer for the 5200 H/W which I probably will take out while running the 2300 I have. I know your next ? is will the hood shut with that cleaner?? I don't know, it will be close---I bought that cleaner on impulse---I liked it, I bought it.

You can always switch to a smaller, round air cleaner later.

How hard is it to get trianguler element replacements???

Pretty hard, I got it at PARR Automotive here in OKC...I asked the guy if they made a thinner filter (element)...he said he didn't know of any..

Darwin, looks great so far. The adapter is just the right height for the 14" recessed base 3" air cleaner.

When you are done, you will not believe the increase in power that is on tap for you.
As for hood clearance I had over 1 1/2" with my setup. This is on a 67 mustang. If your vehicle is not a 67, you best check.

Keep up the good work. William

hmm I have access to a shop right now....and I could use a reason to cut up a head (and go pull one :) ) I have always kinda liked those escort intakes because they seem just like they were meant to be cut up and sectioned for custom projects.

Thanks for the info and review, I really hope I can make the air cleaner work.

By the way white pony I got that spacer cut at "Supermarket Metals" over on S.E. 84th street not too far from you in Moore. I walked in and gave the guy my phenolic spacer and he took me back, cut me off a piece of 1"x5"x6" aluminum flat bar. thanked me, gave me a pen, a conversion table card, and his business card and it cost me all of $12.00. No doubt I will do business with them again. Not bad.
