Yesterday, I bought and installed a Summit Racing Street/Strip Digital CD ignition and their TFI Coil. The 250 ran great warm. This morning it took ~3 to 5 minutes to start. Now, mind you, it did have ignition, but would not start. Then it started and ran great. My question is, should I have disconnected the duraspark ignition module? The install instructions didn't say anything about the module. Are the guys running the MSD6 box eliminating the DS ignition box and running the MSD box as a stand alone? If so, how did you wire up the MSD box?
Thanks,
Ken

The MSD's have instructions for direct hook up to popular systems like duraspark and hei. The MSD box becomes the module. I dont know anything about the Summit system. The msd's have a white wire in the harness you can use to trigger off a 'tach' signal which is what you get out of a stock module or points and then they have a separate input for direct connection to a pickup coil. I think they even sell connector kits that just plug in.

Yes you can run the MSD as a stand alone. That's the setup I have, I bought the new MSD6AL and discarded the duraspark ignititon module. I found that the spark is definetly much more intense with the MSD than it was with the DII. And I wired it up as the instructions said that came with the box, you have to remove the little black cap and snip one of the wires and seperate them for a 6 cyl., I don't think you use the white wire at all and there is a port on the box for a tach feed. At least on the MSD6AL.

Thanks for the anwsers.
I called Summit today, they told me their CD ignition is very similar to the MSD box. The tech guy told me how to wire it up correctly. No more Duraspart box. Now I am going to make sure the armature is lined up with the magnetic pick up, and regap the plugs to .050.
If anyone is interested in a CD ignition, without rev limiter, the box cost only 120.00.

A couple of weeks ago, I ordered a set of LiveWires for the 250. Today I went to Napa and got a rotor, cap and cap adapter. I installed the cap and wires, but noticed the wires only came in a set of 6, not 7. maybe, and I'm hoping that it's a mistake, that the coil wire is missing. I had an old 8mm wire that I am using as a coil wire. Anyway, the car started great, and the power improvement is noticeable. The Summit ignition is a great, inexpensive modification, that helps hps along with mpg's.
Jus a thought,
Ken

Ken, which wires did he tell you to use? I'd like to know because I bought a summit box about a month ago and have been using the purple and green wires. I'm just kinda curious to see if he told you differant and if so I'd love to know how he said to wire it. Thanks!!!!!!! Daniel

The DUI Distributor for which the live wires are made has the coil in the cap, so I don't think it should come with a coil wire.

Daniel,
The purple off the Summit box goes to the Orange off the distributor, and the Green goes to the Vilot off the distributor.
I hope this helps,
Ken
