egr and 5200

Currently have a 1946 and am going to put in a new egr valve.
Also have a 5200, working some things out before installing.
Was wondering, with all the cars, like the pinto, etc. that had the 5200, would the carb not also be engineered for use WITH EGR?
Running without egr might cause tuning issues, running rich, bogging, right :?:

The 5200 isn't designed as an EGR carb, no carb is. The intake manifold is.

All 200's after 1973, I think, had an EGR port under the carb. ON earilier California market 1966 to 1970 cars, when you change the carb, you change either the alloy EGR port. On later stuff, you just use the existing two bolt iron mounting. The valve sits over that, and lets heated exhast gas heat the intake manifold.

With the 5200, you just have to make certain the factory fitting is still there. It can be pretty restrictive. This may have been a reason by the Clifford adaptors for 5200 or 2300 Holleys were swung around...to avoid the EGR posrt.

If there is any problem, you can recalibrate the EGR by fitting a different restrictor valve.

Check Link 200's posts. His 1982 Mustang still has the port cast in the manifold.
