Holley 5200 or Weber 32/36

I have been searching previous posts on the Holley 5200 and Weber 32/36 and it doesn't seem like there's a difference between the two. Is there a difference between them? If so, which one is a better choice? These would be going on a 62 Comet if it makes a difference.

Also, I have noticed that the water heated chokes are very common on these carbs. Is it better to have an electric choke or water choke? The choke on my 1bbl now has a heat tube for the choke, how would I run the lines for the water choke? How hard is it to run the linkage for these two carbs?

the 32/36 is progressive, the primary is 32mm and secondary is 36mm. The 38/38 is a synchronous carb with larger venturis.

Hi Titleist16,

The H/W 5200 and the Weber 32/36 is basically the same carb. The H/W 5200 was made by Holley under license from Weber during the 70's. Weber couldn't meet the demand for the carb.

I have the water heated H/W 5200 that I got from Tom Stovebolt. You use the heater hose to run water thru the carb. It's easy to hook up. The throttle linkage isn't too hard. You can disconnect the choke tube. Some manifolds have eroded to the point that exhaust gasses come out the hole. Mine did so I epoxied a 3/16 screw into the hole with high temp epoxy. It's still holding 6 months later. I have a 68 with over the exhaust linkage. I had to fab a little tab on the carb linkage and install a ball end for the linkage to hook up on. I'm not sure about the older models with under the exhaust linkage.

This was one of the best improvments I've made. The carb from Stovebolt Engines needed to be rejetted for optimum performance but I never got around to it. I got another rebuilt one with a flat top head I bought that had already been massaged. The first one was still a big improvement over the one barrel 1940 carb thou.a

Should be, but be prepared for both a run-around and for a lengthy weight. I waited a month, then when I called last week they told me the machine shop moved and the guy wasn't returning their calls nor faxes and they don't really know when they'll get more Weber adapters in (even though they took my money a month ago.)

I am going to order the H/W carb from Stovebolt. Do I need to get bigger jets than what coke in the rebuilt carb? Does Stovebolt sell bigger jets? Which jets should I get?

I just got my brand new Holley 5200 from Stovebolt and I am wondering if I need to put bigger jets in it. My engine is a 77 200 with a 264 110* cam, headers, dual exhaust, 3 angle valve job, 8.5 compresseion, balanced, V8 springs. With this in mind, what size jets do I need to get if I do need bigger jets?

I have had zero problems with my 32/36 ! Easy jetting , great idle , no stalling.

Hi,

The H/W 5200 I have now, I bought from mraley with his 77 head. Here's what he had done, (from a previous post), and it is running great on mine.

Also forgot to mention how I got the carb to adjust with no dead spots and has lots of power.

We drilled out the throat jets. Here's the jet sizes of anyone is interested....

Primary..............059.................Airbleed......059

Secondary..........063.................Airbleed......076

This gave the best low end acceleration and the best top end pull

I got the carb put on today and it runs a lot better but my low end seems to have really suffered. I was getting better take off with the 1bbl. The guy I had hook everything up put bigger jets in it. It seems like it isn't as powerful as the 1bbl I had on there. Is there nything I can do to make it accelerate quicker?

I also noticed that when I start to take off it seems like it bogs down when I press on the gas before it takes off. I does this especially when I make turns. What could be the problem?

I have a H/W from Stovebolt. The car fired and ran GREAT on initial start up. I have to change gets as it is not enough for my 200 with Isky 262 cam and the head work we have done. The car has low power and pops at WOT.

I have not opened the carb up, but a friend said that on the Holley version has no replaceable jets. That you have to drill them out. Is that so?

I am having low power with mine too. It also bogs down when I step on the gas after I turn a corner. Could it be getting too much gas and choking? My mechanis said he drilled out the idle jet two sizes bigger and the main jet three sizes bigger.
