Hi im a new member from Washington. I enjoy the inline six and see that it has alot of power potential. I would like to start with an exhaust system and am curious if anyone knows of inexpensive dual outlet headers for my 250 and some links to get them?

I feel I am attempting the imposible because my six is not in your average small mustang, mine is in a 1971 "Big Body" Coupe, so getting this boat moving with a 6 should be interesting. Im curious if I am on the right track with adding a header first and x-flow with flowmasters, and after that a good carb, if not please steer me in the right direction, I dont have much money to spend and if the cost is too high, I may go the path of a 5.0 (thats never been done  ) that I have sitting around. I dont really want to go this route, becuase I would love to do something different, and its the original engine to the car. Thanks in advance.

i'd go with the electronic ignition before the carb, before the exhaust actually, seeing as how it would be cheaper
look at the home page www.fordsix.com find the tech section, look up the duraspark II page
good info there

The 250 makes a ton of torque. That's good. I would try to capitalize on that by adding headers, good electronic ignition, and MAYBE a ~254 degree cam. I would also keep the compression at around 9:1 and do a little pocket porting to improve airflow. But no way would I ever build a 250 as a high performance engine for a big-body Mustang.

The 250 makes a fine engine for a daily driver, but you need to realize that even with Oz heads, cams, ignition, headers, and carbs, there is no way that this is ever going to be a really fast car. A Mustang that weighs nearly 4000 lbs is just a little to heavy for such a small displacement engine. IMO, the perfect engine for a 71-73 Mustang is the 351W.

yea I know it wont be a rocket, but I want a good daily driver out of my 71, but I would also like to squeeze some more HP and TQ out of it, just so I dont have the same engine as the next guy with a 250, I also want it to perform best as possible... If I want to go fast, I'll drive my Cobra II, but in my 71 I just want to look good! Thanks for the help.

Just wanted to make sure you had your expectations in order. :D It'll be a real different thing to see at the car shows and will be a sweet thing to drive.

Yea even bone stock the way it is now I have fun driving it. Ill look into electronic igintion then a good header. Thanks for the help.
