I have my 78 Fairmont block partially torn down and as I was removing the oil pump I noticed that the bolt holding down the #2 bearing cap has been filed/shaved so that 50% of it is missing in order not to hit the pump. Also, there is no gasket between the pump and the block.
1. Is it normal (or acceptable) to have a shaved bolt to allow for pump clearance?
2. Is a gasket needed between the pump and the block?
Thanks-
