Rear Main Seal for 65 200 inline 6

Yea ya right…I’m going to stop with this back and forth indecision…crapola
I will be using the rubber seal…

By the time any wear is ever noticed I will be on another planet some where out in the cosmoses …

:rolflmao: “I used to think I was indecisive, but now I am not so sure.” don't know who said it I like it  I hear yeah on the future too. If I knew I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of my self.

The pin holds the rope seal in place and prevents it from rotating (they have a lot of drag). If you leave it in it will puncture or distort a rubber seal. Punch it out and seal the hole with some RTV when your install the rubber seal.

Thank you for the heads up..
This is just before I mounted it..

I wasn’t able to punch it out. So I used a dremel bit to take it out.
Thanks again.... very big help...

Echo,

I ordered up an ARP 155-1002 (BB FORD) cam bolt from Jegs on ebay. About $8 with the snazzy yellow Jegs hat included. Had to cut about a 1/4" off the bolt and drill the thick washer out just barely because the bolt has a shoulder that it wouldn't slip over. Installed it with red Loctite.

Also ran into the same issue with the little pin on the Felpro rear main seal a while back. Actually destroyed the first seal before I figured out what was going on. Drove out the little pin and put a dab of RTV in the hole to avoid an oil leak down the road.

Seems we're living in some sort of I-6 parallel universe... :bang:

Gonna try to get the pistons and rings installed next week.

Scot in OKC

hahahahahah hell man we are both in the same parallel universe. So hows the asteroids in your neck of the black hole..

I haven’t been able to get in touch with Clay Smith by phone as yet. So I’m having my son-in-law drive by Monday and have him clear the question up. He lives close by Clay Smith..

Thank you Scott for comming back with the info on the bolt part number.
Looks like I’ll be getting another 5 dollar hat….

I lucked out on the rubber seal because of MustangSix casual reminder...

keep us posted on your progress....

OK this is OFFICIAL:
I just talked to George at Clay Smith Cams.
Cam grinding is his only business and he has been at it for over 40+ years:
I told him the issue I was having with my old cam bolt.

His Reply:
Throw the old bolt away.
Replace with a new bolt.
And
Don’t forget to use red lockTite on it.

So guess what: The old bolt is now in the old worn-out parts barrel of History
And
It looks like I will be getting me another yellow cap.. :?

Thank you Scott......

Clay Smith was closed for the holidays. That’s why I could not get trough last week..well duhhhh
