Should I get a fan shroud?

right now my maverick does not have one and by the looks of things its been a while since it did if ever. Will putting one on make any diffrence in cooling or anything?

It'll definitely help, but only when you're not moving. If you're not having any problems, I wouldn't worry about it.

Four blade fans do not need shrouds, but as stated, it can help. If you upgrade to five blades or more then you need a shroud.

The only fan I woudl shroud is the aftermarket Flex Fan, and that's only because the blades are sharp as hell and will cut you even with the engine stopped...trust me on that one...

But I took that flex fan off too...anyone interested in it? I actually keep it in the car for shows. I'll swap fans since the color matches my engine. Yet I laugh at the people who jack their cars up to make sure the ponies are upright...

Huh? Why's that?

That's what I found out through research for my fan upgrade. If someone can prove or disprove it, please do.

It just sounds illogical. Seems like the four-blade, since it moves less air than the others, would need the shroud more. It might have been that the later cars that had the five-blade fans also had a shroud. That doesn't mean that they had to have it, only that it was there. In any case, a shroud will help with low-speed situations because they direct airflow through the core instead of just moving air around under the hood.

Personally, I think fan shrouds were never needed and were added only as a SAFETY feature so people wouldn't get figured cut off by looking around the engine bay while the engine was running.
