Flex fan, and another header question

Would reccommend that whereever you decide to buy or whatever brand you get, cough up the extra expense and buy the headers that are ceramic or powder coated. I went the uncoated route originally, but after 6 months of trying to keep them painted and looking decent, I gave up, pulled the headers an shipped them to Jet Hot for the silver ceramic coating. In addition to looking far better I noticed a reduction in engine and exhaust noise in the passenger compart in addition to a reduction in heat in the engine compartment.

I would have to double-check but I believe I got my Transpro 3-row from either Autozone or Parts America. With shipping, they were cheaper and quicker than the Mustang Catalog suppliers...

Howdy Aaron:

I wanted to add some other thoughts for you to consider in your pursuit to stay cool-

FoMoCo did offer a water pump for AC equiped engines. It has an added plate on the front of the impeller vanes. I believe they were available for '68 200s. They are designed to move more coolant. They do consume a little more power- especially at higher rpms/

An air dam under the radiator support will help when moving. The air dam, or spoiler creates a high pressure in front and low pressure behind it causing more cool air into the grill and sucking hot air out the bottom.

A water wetter product added to your coolant may help to increase its internal efficiency. Red Line markets one.

I like and have used flex fans- more for lighter weight and performance then cooling. I'm looking into adapting a Taurus electric fan system to my '65 Ranchero.

Stay cool.

Adios, David

I installed a 5 blade fan from a Maverick with a 250 and A/C. Its larger in diameter and moves WAY more air than the stock 4 blade. I did need to notch the battery holding clamp but that was a minor mod. I love that fan. Took the car to Florida last June and the temp was rock solid. Before, on hot days here in Mn, in traffic, the engine would heat up noticeably. Not anymore.

Cheap, easy, very effective.
