Hey, i'm back with questions.
I checked the KaStang-page about the Offenhauser 3-carb intake. The installation process doesnt look that hard, but i guess tuning the carbs is a headache.

Anyways, since i just found a Swedish retailer of Summit stuff i can get the Offenhauser intake from them. The cost including carbs and throttle linkage is alright for me, but i would like to know what expectations i should have just bolting this one on my 250 with '66 head. Would you recommend this to me as you know im pretty retarded when it comes to engine experience. I have the winter to get to know what i'm doing, and i'm a fast learner usually.

Another thing i've given some thought is the fact that 250s was installed with 5-lug 8" rear axles, right? And i've got the org. '68 4-lugger. Will this be a problem if i start upgrading hp - how long will the 4-lugger cope?

Shock loads do more damage than steady pressure on gears. If the pinion and carrier bearings are good, and your gear faces in decent condition and alignment, the rear end should last just fine.

The Offenhauser is all about "old school" hotrodding, and if that appeals, it will be just what you like. Certainly has the right look. When the 250 is worked over, it can tend towards being thirsty. There will be some fine tuning involved.

The biggest obstacle yet to the US 250s, is the lack of a really good dual roller timing set. It's something AzCoupe is working on, but I don't think he's got the samples yet (or tested them).

Regards, Adam.

Thx, my rear axle is in good condition as it is now, and old-school is a sweet word. Raised fuel consumtion is expected - but how much at regular driving... I don't wanna spend all my time filling the baby up.

What about the performance with a offy 3-carb upgrade? What would we be talking bout in terms of HP out of my stock 250 / '66 head?

I've read these head modd guides aswell, and i guess they will be made when i start working on my head to install the offenhauser aswell - the guide is very thorough and good written - thx to author.

I have the offy 3 carb setup and honestly, the mileage is very good. I get around 23 mpg if I keep my foot out of the floorpan.(very difficult!) The big difference seems to be on the freeway-the amount of passing power is way better than stock, but thats what the 3 carbs do is to make it breathe better. I'm going to be installing gears soon so as to take advantage of the engine's power curve better. You'll want to install a bigger cam to get the benefits and for sure and exhaust to get it all out. I ordered my offy through Summit for $256.00 including shipping vs. 350 + shipping from Clifford!

Anyone got close-up pictures on how they solved the throttle linkage, fuel linkage etc on these babies. I guess except from from drilling the head, it's not a bolt-on and includes much diy. And diy is scary :?

The Summit catalog description says it comes with the linkage parts.

"Includes installation kit with progressive linkage."

:D Thanks from mustang652 on the picture of the tri-offy setup. Just accuired the intake as a start to my upgrade project. Has anybody found a source for the Weber 34 ICH carbs yet.

1) Ya welcome...
2) Why those? Will three 1100's work??

:D I got the following email message from the company that specializes in the remanufacture of the 1100. I quote: " I have seen the Autolite 1100 installed times three. The man who has this set-up is having difficulty getting it to run properly. We do not recommend ". Personally, I don't know. I'm hoping to find a good general consenses as I'm a far better parts replacer than I am a mechanic.

I ran the Offy 3x1 setup on the larger intake 69+ head years ago. Per the instructions provided at the time, I ran the stock 1100 in the center along with smaller Holley side bowl carbs off of a 170 on the ends. That's what I show in my avatar (a bit small). I never did sort out good air cleaners for the Holleys.

f0ssil, To give one slant on 4 lug or 5 lug. If you have access to old copies of Mustang & Fords magizines, check out the layout on pages 24 and 25 of the April 1999 issue. I'd copy and print the picture here except I'm not sure how to reduce the pictur small enough or how to post it in the text. I used to know the guy who put togather and owned the car pictured. He raced it in autocrosses until he put it up for auction several years ago. I don't know where he got the wheels at, but as you will be able to tell from the photo he ran 4 lug. I went five lug for access to a larger varity of wheels and I got the parts, including the 8 in rear end, drive shaft and heavy duty V8 front end at a good price. Added on edit. Thanks for the pictures on the installation. I might even try it myself.

It's interesting to see some pics of the same set-up as mine, but installed differently. I have my carbs mounted 180 degrees in the other direction- this required the linkage to be massaged quite a bit, but allowed me to run the fuel away from the exaust manifold and closer to the fuel pump and regulator(by the way, fuel regulator is mandatory for this setup with the webers)

Those webers are tiny - - - Makes me think you could run three Solex carbs from VW bug.

The solex is similar, but 3 of them will probably flow more than needed-I actually used air cleaners that fit the solex on my webers.

Thx for comments and great pics.

mustang652 - you can mail me a scan if you want of the Mustang & Fords article, (f0ssil (at) hotmail.com), i can edit and post it. Did you get any other comments about why not to use the Autolite 1100s? Thats the carb i got now and buying 2 more of the same kind is cheaper than getting 3 brand new...

If not the 1100s, which carb do you guys suggest? I want a simple setup.

Anyone have any close guess bout what the setup would deliver for me in terms of hp with all the head mods on my '66 from inlinepages.
