Radiator Shroud

I've been thinking about making a shroud for my radiator. Does anyone here know how much different the V8 radiator is from our 200 radiators? I could easily fab one from scratch but thought if the V8 shroud could be modified, it would look more correct. Just now thinking about this, haven't really done any investigating yet.

Should I forget this and just go back on my medication?

don't know.How about measuring your radiator and going to a junkyard and getting an electric fan an shroud and modifying the mounting brackets?

I don't want to use an electric fan because I want the engine compartment to look mostly stock. That's the reason for trying to modify an original style. When someone looks into the engine compartment of my car, I don't want anything to really stand out as modified. The Monte Carlo bar I'm thinking of installing is going to stand out, but there's nothing I can do about that. Safe handling is important.

I could install a 429 but it wouldn't look right in a 6 cylinder car. Wrong shape, too many sparkplugs, etc.

I'll get out to the garage and measure it tomorrow. I'll start researching this better tomorrow but thought if someone here had already looked into something like this I might get some basic info first.

There is a fan shroud for a V8. The demensions and mounting for a 8 and a 6 are the same. The only thing you have to do is clearance a little around the hose areas. I have one on my car and fits perfect.

what kind of improvement in cooling did you notice when you putthat shroud on the six? I live in Houston and its getting to be very hot here real soon. Looking for anything to improve cooling. I have to run the air conditioner and that causes overheating when sitting still in traffic. Moving along I have no problems.

I modified an older 289 shroud for my 70 Mustang 250 w/ac. Was a major pain in the rear... ended up cutting about half of it away....but that's another story. Thought the lack of a decent shroud was my problem until I finally got the vacuum/timing/tuning sorted out...and a couple of bottles of Water Wetter. No more overheating probs...even with the a/c on during the summer.

water wetter. seen it on hotrod tv and trucks. new summit catalog lists for $7/ quart and does 5 gallons. Simple yes. Effective? to be seen. I'll definitely order.

Yeah, like the old saying goes..."your mileage may vary." I played around with various water/AF mix levels. But once I got the mechanicals sorted out, it seemed like Water Wetter was good for a notch or so on the temp gauge when stuck in traffic on 90+ days.
