What SHOULD my timing be set at?

I looked up what my timing is supposed to be set at in my dads Chilton and it said 6... I was wondering with my "mods" what should it be set at? I currently only have the holley 500cfm 2bbl and a duraspark ignition.... Thanks, Tommy

advancing it to about 12 degrees baseline should help you out

12 to 14 BTDC should be close. Keep advancing untill you get a ping then back it off.

When I checked the timing it was at about 12. I will change it in a little bit. I did a check for timing and found nothing inparticular

I advanced it a bit but I dont have my light at home, it runs ALOT better now. It is also alot quicker! I still have to do a 0-60 time to see just about how much faster it is with the new carb... but gas mileage.... Matt said he didnt notice a change for better or for worse... I was getting at around 16 mpg. I put 20 bucks in (at 2.13 a gallon) and am now just above a half a tank.... but I can say I had to test it out a bit Well see what I get next week... Tommy
